RE: 91 Honda crx build or what?
quadzilla122 I'm not saying that honda's are no good. I'm trying to save you much pain that you will feel when your dream does not happen. I was a motor head I built a few in my day. I did fords for the most part but did make a kick ass olds. What it cost to make a 300hp honda I can make a 600hp ford. That is my only point, the honda has very little potential as it is. Now a fox body mustang V8 the potential is there you just have to tap it. You also can get a ton of parts for mustangs for cheap. camaro's also can have some great potential but they are a tad on the heavy side. I think the only import I would build is the toyota Supra mid 90's. I spent a lot of time around motor heads to the point I got burned out. A crome exhaust tip and a muffler with a nice shifter does not make a fast car I call them guys the fast and Furious. My big point is if you spend money and go this way do it right[8D] you can't get cheap HP from what your doing. I almost forgot one more thing the old taurus sho is a very fast car, I had one and beat a lot of cars. The only down side is parts for the engine is very $$$$.

RE: 91 Honda crx build or what?
Yesterday we took the engine block out for good (we would have taken it out a week ago if it wasnt for a cv joint lug nut that wasnt coming out and we had to buy a torch and leave it heating for an hour for it to get softer and it came out. We found out the engine we are going to buy and it is way less horsepower than 300 but that will change when we get it but it will be between this one: http://www.jdmtigerjapanese.com/prod...roducts_id=188 and this one http://www.jdmtigerjapanese.com/prod...products_id=58. He will probably get the first one because it is like half the price and for that 25hp we can buy a turbo and get about 120hp(we dont really want more than that from the turbo making the engine 280hp). The website from which those two motors are from sells engines with only 0 to 35k miles on them which in my opinon is practically brand new. The shipping to my zip code is $195. This header will probably go on and were not sure what muffler but it will be "cool" http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/88-91...em280198485226
I have pictures of the engine out and will be posting it soon.

That is a lot of money for a junk yard engine IMO. Why don't you rebuild the old one. send the head out punch out the block new pistons and cams kind of stuff? also ask for the vin off the block and run a carfax report on the car. Don't wunt a hot engine or something that was in a flood. I know the acura engine has a little more punch I was told. Might wunt to look for a doner car, I saw a Honda Prelude for sale for $500. A turbo is great and all but on your car I don't think the computer will let it. you need a mass air flow and a new or reprogramed pcm to take the turbo.

Sorry quad, this is one of those dreams that teenagers have (no offense) that never seem to happen.
I would bet a lot of money this never happens, a 400 or so dollar CRX is bound to have more problems than is worth. How is the entire suspension? Tie-rods? Ball joints? electrical system? I had an 89 civic I am just listing parts that most likely need care.
So I will throw it out there, anyone wanna take me up on this bet?

I am a fan of the Lincoln Mark VII, DOHC 4.6 V8 gotta love it.

ok I just would like to say good luck with your honda. Now this is what I'll tell you as a friend on the site, don't wast you time building that car or the money you need to make 300hp engine. I can go to a junk yard get an old Lincoln with a 460 clean it up add intake cam and carb drop it in a fairmount and beat the crap out of that honda in the 1/4 mile. That is what I did at 18. The car ran 12 seconds on some very cheap handed down slicks. I did all this for a $1000 in 1991. I would look for a fox body mustang and do a 302 up. 300 hp is very easy for a 302 with no juice, add some NOS and 400 is around the corner. the trans and rear can take the power with no problem . The honda can't trans, axle's, motor mounts, even the body can't. most guys at the races that have honda's all done have put some very mad money into them like more then what the car is worth new. Also if you can find a 1986 buick regal T-type for like $8,000 put $5000 into it and you will have a 10 second every day driver.

Or you could just find an old fox body mustang and put the 4.6 liter in it like this guy did.

VIPER458 From: cape coral, FL, USA - I used to live there in a past life
Anyways, here is my car advice from someone that has been around 60's~70's muscle cars (Mopar's mainly)...
Leave the outside unfinished - bondo, different color fenders, doors, etc. and put all your money into the motor, trans, suppension & a good set of tires.
This will make people think less of the car when they look at it - the fastest cars aren't aways the coolest looking ones, and it will keep the police off of your case since it looks like a $300 beater that is used for a first car.

haha. yeah gotta love the good ole cape and our wonderfully humid climate. but i guess after awile you get used to the heat. its just a bummer it makes our cars less powerful from the humidity. but at least we get higher atmospheric pressure which kinda helps.

OMG! The engine came today and it looks great! I cant wait to install it becuase im going to paint it first than that. I will post pics tommorow because its already to dark. The only thing im kind of disapointed is that the bottom exterior of the engine is dirty. I bought a spray gun today and hoping to paint it it tommorow.

best of luck, a few FYI things, look over and check all sensors and conectors are the same. The big problem with engine swaps is a mismatch engine to PCM. Take your time and good luck. I have to thank you you got me into my mustang and now I'm looking hard for parts, I just found this http://philadelphia.craigslist.org/pts/566979496.html This should make around 700HP it's like four honda engine's.

Thanks man, I already checked the timing belt and it looks great, the valves look very good,it even brough a new ECU that i wasnt expecting to get. Do you guys think an MSD ignition would be a good upgrade? or should i leave it stock?
