Edge 540 fin angle is off
#1
Hi Mike, not a big deal but thought you would want to know..... on the Edge 540 ARF, when I slide the fin post down into the grove, the angle of the fuselage/fin joint at the top rear of the fuselage is off by quite a bit. I thought I'd make a little wedge shaped slide of balsa to fill in that gap. Otherwise, great quality of parts! I think I will have to get the new Yak ARF too!

Hi Ernie. I'm not sure I understand. Do you mean the fin is not straight up and down or parallel to the fuselage? A little sanding in the groove to compensate should fix that. Post a pic if you can.

No Mike, that's not the direction that it is off. It slides in the slot just fine but along the top, rear of the fuse where the bottom of the fin is to be glued, the fin bottom does not come down flat on the top of the fuselage. I am making an angled ship to fill in the void.
Making sense yet?
Thanks,
Ernie

Ok, yes now I understand. If it is not that off it could have moved some when the cover girl put the covering on. Sometimes you can press it down in place and shrink the covering accordingly. But if you already made a wedge that will work also as long as you keep the rudder hinge line straight.

The angle was off quite a bit, maybe 15 degrees or so. The fin was not made properly. I had to make a wedge that tapered from about 3/32" to fill in that gap. The only other option was not to keep the rudder hinge line straight in it's groove but that would have been a bad idea as you noted.
Of interest is that the directions on the CD are showing pictures and giving info on assembling the Fusion, not the Edge. (like checking for clearance on the counterbalances on the elevator (aren't any on the Edge) and reaching through the hatch on the left wing (it's on the right wing on the Edge) to tighten the wing bolt), etc. That isn't a big deal to me at all but I had to chuckle since I have a Fusion sitting right here too.
