Hey ya, I posted this on another thread. Was wondering what ya all think about it. I may get this as a trainer, but hate the color. I like pink, yes but not for a plane. Can I paint it?..or will that weigh it down.....any opinions on the airplane regardless of paint scheme are welcome and does anyone know if its rog? Thanks ...........okay, a link would help huh?...

Hello, Janet. I'm sure that you will have guys falling all over themselve to help you. There aren't too many ladies that hang out on this board (or any other model airplane board, for that matter).

If its foam, you can paint it. Spray cans or an airbrush will apply paint sparingly and will add some, but not a lot, of weight. Testor's or Tamiya paints should work fine. Test you paint on a piece of scrap first to make sure it is compatible. There are also acrylic spray paints and water soluable paints (often from craft stores of crafts section of big dept stores) that will work OK as well.

HTH,
Mike

Hey what's up

if it is and it looks like foam then yea get som testors paint and paint it whatever color "float's your boat", but if it's stick and tissue ( you never know), then you can also get som paint for it, just ask your local hobby shop.

There is a few other modles that are awusome trainers, and are easy to get a hold of, like the GWS Tiger Moth and the Hobby Lobby mini piper, just to name a few.

Janet,

Robbe doesn't seem to have any major full-line vendors here in the US, but I do see their products from time to time at various hobby shops. That little guy is certainly interesting in appearance, but I know absolutely nothing about it other than its general specifications listed on the link--it does appear to be a decent beginner choice, though. If you like the minipiper but not the tiger moth, take a look at the GWS cub. It's like a timex watch--takes a licking and keeps on ticking. Mine, due to inattentive piloting, has crashed into trees, stop signs, haywagons, tractors, buildings,...er, that's enough...and a little packaging tape and/or 5-minute epoxy always gets it going again. Best of all, it's only $40, including the motor, prop, and gearbox. Here's a picture of mine before I added nicer foam wheels and landing gear struts. It's over a year old and has many flights on it:

YES, i had a gws pico cub f and it did take ALOT of abuse, i ran into power poles, fron porches (don't ask) and various other things, once i even ran in to a pole in mid flight and i few the rest of the flight just fine, all it did was, well, i think it bent the out-put shaft a little but but not enough to really affect flight performance. it is a GREAT plane for begenners.

The cub pictured in my post above is manufactured by GWS, a taiwanese company with many satisfied customers. It is available here . The mini piper mentioned by zerobomber is made my graupner, a respected german manufacturer, and is available at hobby-lobby . Both planes have their proponents and opponents. The GWS cub flys slower and in a more stable manner than the mini piper and thus should give you a fighting chance to keep up with it on the first few flights if you're learning on your own. The mini piper, due to it's higher flight speed, will track a little better in a breeze, but will probably be a litle harder to learn with if you're on your own. Bottom line is, neither is a bad choice, both will teach you a lot. And just to further add to your confusion, the Slow Stick, also offered by GWS, is yet another plane many have successfully learned on. It's about as simple as they come.

The Piper Cub is a good choice.
Robbe has some great products, but unless you can find a distributer in the US, the shipping can be unreal. I ordered some axles a while back and ended up paying close to $50 to get them here, and they're small.

Unfortunately, the only hobby shop I know of that carries Robbe products is in Easton, PA and doesn't do mail order. Zero, sorry for the confusion on the min piper. I just re-read your post about the front porch and the pico cub. I've done worse, trust me .

Yeah, I saw the Robbe site and it has pretty good info, but in the past I've found that int'l and US vendors sometimes use different reference numbers for products, etc, so I thought if this HUI outfit had a website, or even a catalog for that matter, it would avoid any potential confusion. I guess the easiest way to find out would be to give the 800# a call.

I think aircraft world sells Robbe products, and shipping is only 2.50 from Japan (may be more for planes, though).
