DKjens - Take note of the 12 in. square in the from of the Ecstasy. I don't think that you will have any problem swinging a 18" prop. Remember that there is any wheels on it yet too!

OK, lets not get out of control. The blank I referred to mainly was about the fact that Kevin and I both want a large fun fly, in the 80" wingspan area that can take a large glow or small gas engine. The ecstasy may evolve to that plane but we don't know where it will go since it has not flown yet. However, Kevin was not satisfied with the Aeron 60 so therefore I am sure he has learned from that and gotten this ecstasy to the point he will be happy. We can only wait and see.
Neither of us have gotten very far on the big fun fly. I really think there is a huge market for the large fun fly airplane. I am not talking about what is out there so far, they do not go where I want them to. (I will exclude OMP's new big edge profile from this post since I know nothing about its characteristics.) But I am dreaming of one that can perform nearly every maneuver on a 1.5 - 2.0 glow or 40cc area gas and look something like an airplane. Carden is supposedly working on a small aerobat, but I do not know any specifics and I would be surprised if it was a fun fly type. OK I am getting wordy here and you all get the direction. Anyway I hope the ecstasy is great and I get #2, did I say get I mean purchase. Kevin, is not sponsoring anyone. Jeff.

did I say good, eh, I meant fantastic.
Jeff, yeah, I meant purchase, but accidentally said have, and Kevin caught me in that one. I certaintly didn't mean anything by quoting you. I understand Kevin is quite critical about his own designs, and that is where your "blank" stems from.
To iterate, I'll be more than happy to purchase one of the first kits, when they become available, if it lives up to Kevin's standards.

Of course none (except Kevin) have met me, therefore you do not know that I mean everything in fun. So if it sounds stern, look at the opposite side and that is where I probably am. The fun side, the harrassing side. I like to give people a hard time, but it is intended in fun. I can take it back too. But I love to dish it. OK enough, Kevin knows me well enough that I can get away with harrassing him, he is a well rounded individual I was lucky enough to meet with this spring and we got to do some flying and talking about designs. We both want the same sort of stuff. The ecstasy will be fun, somthing different and I look forward to it. Plus, I have built 5 sledges in the last year and that gets daunting. I need a change.

Yes, I take my designs very very seriously, but everything else is fair game! I visited a flying site in Cincy this past spring when I was working up there. Don and a buddy of his immediately started to harass me, even before I introduced myself. I told them, that there was one thing that I really enjoy about this hobby, no matter where I go flying at, the harassment is the same - I LOVE IT!!! You can always feel at home no matter where I fly at! I've only run across a couple of individuals that are wound too tight in this hobby. The odds are GREAT!
The hobby is GREAT! and the people associated with it. I guess that is way I enjoy it so much.

I much prefer to have an airfoil tail (full flying tail), though it adds too much weight in the tail section for this size aircraft, ecspecially with the servos mounted in the tail. Believe me, I considered it.
Thanks for the suggestion.

By the way Smallfly, I thought you met the same guy that I did in Greenville, IN. They must have switched out the real Jeff for robo Jeff when we drove over to the airfield
. That was a pretty cool trick!
I have to try that. I noticed that Jeff stated that I was the only one that met him. I figured that you would catch that too. Give Jeff heck Smallfly!!!!
Tom (Smallfly) I am using the 1-1/4" dia. alunimum wing tube and sleeves. So yes, the wings are removable. I haven't quite got a handle on the cost yet, but since I am on the road this week (again), I will try and sum up my expenses and work out a 'Ball-Park' price. I've had to change some of my laser files (which of course effects $), and I have to change some wood sizes (material laser cut out of). But for you Smallfly - I'll try (don't take this personal DKjens, since you asked before
) since I have a better idea now that I am close to finishing 'boning' it out.
I have yet to build the other wing (left side), the elevator halves, and finish the wing mounting (guide pin installation). Then I will start covering. I may be in Indy at the end of the month on business. I'll let you and Jeff know when they tell me

Kevin, would it not be terrible if you were stuck in Indy for the next several months. Gosh we would have to go to fly ins together. I secretly hope it happens, that was fun to go to Smallflys fun fly. I know of some more we can hit if you are stuck in Indy. And you guys got me, what is meant by robo Jeff. Later, Jeff Williams

Kevin, are you using a scaled up HB airfoil or a thicker one like the aeron. If you make it to Indy They are having a big air show(not RC) on the weekend of sept 7th. "a gathering of corsairs" and lots of cool stuff. You may want to check it out

Smallfly - The airfoil on the Ecstasy is completely different from the HB Mk III. It is more in lines, or resembles the Aeron foil, but since the leading and trailing edge, as well as the thickness is tapered (triple taper), I don't believe that it will be anything like the Aeron's foil performance.
Regarding Indy Trip - I still don't know about whether it will happen or not. This trip is for training purposes and is only schedule for Sept 23 thru 26th. I will let you guys know one way or the other.

I didn't get allot done today on the Ecstasy. Too many other things on my 'to do' list. I did get the elevator halves and them dry hinged to the horizontal stab today though. I hope to start the other wing tomarrow. If I get the other wing done this weekend, then next weekend I can start covering.

Here is the last pic for now. This shot is to give a better indication of its physical size. The wing span is 65". I weighed it as shown (without servos, engine, etc.) with a fish scale, and it weighs about 3 lbs. I didn't think that was bad for a 90 size aircraft. I've posted a few more pics on my website.

Let me know what you think. PS, the ugly guy with the sun in his eyes is me.

Hold on everybody!! I have also purchased 2 of Kevins kits, but I live in the same town as Kevin, so I think if you divide that plus being a member of Kevin's flying club, I think that gives me the edge fellas, don't you agree? John :greedy:

HEEEEE HEEEEEE!!!
Sorry guys, just couldn't resist the oportunuty for a terrible pun.

Right now, the kit cost of the Ecstasy appears to be around $200 USD. This cost includes shipped in the 48 states. The kit will include the following:
- All laser cut parts
- Construction drawings (full scale - 2 shts)
- Fully illustrated construction manual
- Aluimum wing tube (1-1/4" dia.) and wing tube sleeves
- Custom carbon fiber main landing gear
Currently this pricing is strictly an estimate (guess-timate). I am making some changes to the laser cutting files, hence there is liable to be some changes to the associated costs (hopefully less).
Hope that this helps!
