OS46FX - 16.45 oz
Saito 72 - 16.6 oz

Not much difference in weight there and compare the torque as well as the ability to swing a much larger prop there isn't another choice.

Now we all know you didn't like your Saito Paul, but that doesn't mean it's a boat anchor. My Knife weighed 4lbs 3oz with a Saito 72 and talk about a 3D'n machine... again there isn't a better choice. Well some might say YS63 which would work well too.

I was just trying to get your goat.... It worked

The Saito .72 I had was a very good engine.. Your right about the weight... I weighed them both on a digital scale.... within an ounce of each other.

Just not my cup of tea... I guess it's a personal preference thing...

One of these days I'm gonna have to come up there and try out one of your Saito equiped birds and see what your talking about..... I dunno... I still think I wouldn't like it...

Default MVVS 40 w/tuned pipe and the Knife a good combo?

It was recommended by Robert from Morris? Anybody know if this is a good combo?

Thanks!

The MVVS 49 flies the Knife very well. Can't speak for the MVVS 40, but I am very pleased with the 49/Knife combo.

You have to use lower Nitro fuel with MVVS engines though (0% - 10%)

...i have a Morris Fun Fly Hots w/MVVS 40, mousse can muffler - haven't been able to get a good, reliable, needle valve setting especially in vertical (for hovering) - wish i had an OS 46 FX on it...

...i'm using 15% Byron's - could too much nitro be part of the problem???...

All the searches I did on RCU concerning fuels for the MVVS all say the same thing:

No more than 10% Nitro. They will not run well on anything higher. Most people are using 5% or less.

Try some less Nitro fuel before you throw in the towel.

I hope this helps.

Default Neo...

I am not sure why this has not been mentioned earlier, if it has I guess I just missed it. You can get a Tower 46 muffler from Tower Hobbies for around $13. It REALLY helps a 46fx spool up a 12.25x3.35. This combo is amazing.

Ask around, I assure you I am not the only one doing this!

...we've been running the Tower mufflers/OS 46 combo for some time, now - works great! - maybe not quite as good as an Ultrathrust but the price is right...

I used the MVVS .40 with the mini tunned pipe on my SuDoKhoi... Ran great!! I had to pull it off when the internals of the mini tunned pipe let go... I'm going to mount it on a redesigned wasp soon.

Latch is right about the nitro.... Don't go over 5%.... These guys are very high compression.... If you can't get 5%... put a head shim in to reduce the compression.

Yeah but you can't really get the muffler right? It is always on back order. It is sort of mythical now.

Robert's a good guy and all but remember he is there to sell products. When I ordered my Knife he talked me into a Rossi 45 which didn't even make it on the Knife. After some testing on another profile I realized it wasn't a good fun fly engine. The throttle transition was poor but it would scream at full throttle. Being a fun fly I wanted a better throttle transition than a top end screamer so I sold the Rossi 45 for $30 less than what I paid. I then bought a Saito 72 which is a PERFECT match for these fun fly planes...

I just ordered the new Sledge on Friday and can you guess what that's getting for power? Yep, a Saito 72.

Default Knife engine

There are 3 engines I would consider for the knife
1. Saito 72 w/zinger 13 X 5
2. MVVS 49 w/zinger 11 X 4
3. YS 63 no prop recommendation.
BEst of luck, JEff Williams
