Somethin Extra Question

Since I'm almost done my winter project I trying to figure out what to ask the big fat guy for (Santa) And I keep seeing the Sig Somethin Extra all over these forums. I was leaning to a 3D capable plane and wondered if the Somethin Extra would fit into this somehow.

I would suggest that you do a serach within this forum on the SIG Somthin' Extra. I think that you will find that for all around 3D? Keep looking. There are plenty of others out there that are far superior over the Somthin' Extra for 3D. The SE is a sport plane with a little extra. Where 3D has a whole lot of extra (LOL)

Try the Polar Bear kit. I will enclose a picture of mine. Has a Webra .32, Macs pipe and Mousse can muffler turning a apc 10X6 prop and its a screamer. Only use half throttle. Hovers nicely etc.

What are you flying now? And what are looking to get out of this aircraft? Are you hovering, TR'ing, etc. now? This may help with direction / recommendation. Do you want an ARF, Kit, or prefer to scratch build? Do you want to stick with a 40 - size or what? What engine do you want to use, brand/model? This will help us,

I've been flying a Thunder Tiger Lazy P51 for some mild 3D but with a flat bottom wing it is limited but it prop hangs pretty good and inverted flight is pretty good also, Will loop inverted with the elevator/aileron mix but the 32 is going to stay in that. I'm no pro but I have been going in forward steps and can handle a combat Spad with ease and those keep you on your toes and now I want to start trying some 3D flying and I picked up a old OS 46SF and need a plane to put it in. I have a Midwest ME109 hopefully taking it's maiden flight this weekend with my OS 46FX so the sport plane area is covered, I'm not against ARF's but building will keep me busy this winter and are a little cheaper as far as the wife knows (hehe Don't tell her I have to buy all the accessories for the kit) so a Good entry level 3D would be good but don't want something I will out grow because I do pick up fast on things and get bored if I can do more than my plane, So far this summer I've been lucky. Have flown almost every weekend and have yet to crash. Seen plenty others crash though and the more experienced guys keep asking me why I never crash (Ongoing joke) Because my brother and I are the ones who push our planes to there limets (you should see his Slowpoke with a Tower 46 prop hang and pull strait out of it, It don't look natural I tell ya) So what I would like is a 3D plane that looks good with a OS 46SF that I can grow into and not out grow too fast. (Sorry for all the babling, Just got home from work and I'm very tired. Hate working nights)

My SE does some nice 3d stuff with this new tail. I got another kit and im going to make the tail like a cap(Probably just the elevator) and see what happenes
I made my rudder 6' long and it could pull out of a dive in KE if I worked at it. Cut the elevators out for 45degrees + throw for the rudder of course.

May it rest in pieces, It is not a 3-D maniac but is is a GREAT everyday kick in the pants flyer. Mine did not knife edge worth a hoot but did most everything else well. Agood .46 and a 12.25 X 3.75 prop and it will climb out of a hover. torque rolls are pretty easy. Again, it's not a 3-D machine but I think it was favorite everyday flyer. i'm getting another, I really do miss mine.

Of course, the first suggestions would be my kits, though there are plenty of good ones out there. For Just starting in 3D, I would suggest the Wacky-BeeIII (WB3). It flies like a profile, though has a box style fuse. Knife edge loops with a good BB 40, climbing inverted flat spins, tornados, upright flat spins - GREAT! Check out the movies on my website of it at:

You may also want to consider the Hard Bet Mk III (HB Mk3). It has plug-in wings for the ease of transportation. The HB Mk3 is not as forgiving as the WB3, though is more versitile.
Check out the FAQ section on my website to better understand the differences in my designs.
Hope that this helps!
