Here is the last image of my setup. I hope this helps you. It works great on mine!!!! By the way the servos you have chosen are more then enough to put the edge through its paces. If you look the recommended output for the control surface in this edge I believe is 100oz total torque. Oh yea almost forgot. Im running mine on 4.8 volts. Still no flutter of any sort.

I don't know weather the 540 has the aerodynamic balance tabs on the ends of the elevators but my cap 231 does. I unhook the elevator horn and put finishing nails at the front inside till it balanced the weight of the elevator. A good cure for flutter.

this plane is the gs540 by ohio model planes , it is a profile fun fly with an 80" wing span, i'am running a moki 1.80 on it, i also have a hangar 9 edge with a moki 1.80 with the same servo's

Just a thought here..I purchased 2 of the 225 BB's to use for aileron servos on a 4lb Morris Hobbies Top Cap. Hitec recommends a weight limit of 10lbs for this servo. When I mount servo in my giant scale planes I like to keep all linkages at right angles to each other. So the pushrod is at right angles to the servo arm and control horn. In the picture that was posted the angle of the pushrod is pretty severe. What may be happening is the control surface has mechanical advantage over the servo, causing flutter. I would relocate the servo upward so that the pushrod is directly inline(level) with the control horn on the surface. Use as short and as stiff a rod as possible.

well i put the flying wires on moved the clevis out as far as it would from the surface. and

well it still fluttered . the first knife edge it did not flutter then on the secound atempt back came the flutter.

with the wire moved out to the farthest hole the rod is alomost completey straight. no angles no slop , no nothing . only that there is is the metal gears in the servos i guess this is the problem . i will have to figure out some more servo's that will fit that in those small holes

could it be that the wood in the elevator is weakened somehow? if the wood is flexing then messing with the controlhorns and servoes isn't going to do anything. grab the very back of the elevator and see if it flexes. if it does you might need to replace the elevator completely.



there is a thread in the begginers forum about flutter including an article I found and linked to that is about how flutter happens, is solved, etc.
might be worth the read.

For one thing, get rid of the 225 MGs on your elevator halves. I realize that you'll have to open up the plane again to replace them with a larger servo, but, is it worth loosing the plane?
I've run the 225s for years on pylon racers without any problems. I've lost a few in 40-size Fun-Flys, due to 205 & 225 failures. Anybody that thinks that a Fun-Fly servo doesn't see the stress and strain that a pylon racer exerts and more, isn't flying that aircraft the way it was designed to . The 225's gear train is too small for this application. Metal gears makes it even worse in the case. The vibration of the big motors has a tendency to wear the metal gears a heck of allot quicker, thereby creating slop. If you don't have slop in the drive train now, you will soon! And you think your flutter is bad now! Its going to get worse! You need the larger gear train, and nylon gears to absorb shock. I realize that this is a controversy regarding metal vs. nylon, but that's life.
Take my advice, and replace those 225 MGs.

Sorry I didn't tell you what you wanted to hear, but it is better to know than live in denial - Right?
Change the servos and then fly it, you'll probably change your mind about wanting to get rid of it. If you are fustrated, and I'm sure that you are, we all get there at times, walk away from it for a while. Fly something else for a while. Go back to it later.

Would the hitec 225 BB's be adequate for ailerons in a .40 size fun fly plane? I wanted a light weight servo but it seems some people have had some problems with them. I may just end up using some standard size futaba 3003's.

Go with the std. size servo. I've tried the 205s & 225s in a 40-size Fun Fly on all control surfaces at one time or the other in an effort to save weight. The only place that I have had success with the 205 / 225 on a 40 size Fun-Fly is the throttle. MO from actual experience!
