Default Flaperon Endpoints........HELP?!!?!?

When my flaperons go up or down, the endpoints aren't the same. I'm using a hitec eclipse 7 radio, and tried changing endpoints whith full flaperon deflection, but when I did, endpoints in regular mode changes (whithout flaperons)......help.

Default Flaperons

Naturally they're going to change. You have one servo in the aileron channel and one in the flap channel with a flaperon mix on. There is only one end point on each.

Go to flaperons, hold full up elevator and set them even. Usually, I have to cut the large one down. Then go to full down elevator and set those end points. When you use ailerons, you should have the same travel on both sides.

I use JR, but fly a buddy's Eclipse every weekend (he doesn't fly his scale planes any more. I think they adjust the same, or close to it.

If you are wanting less flaperon throw on both, you need to cut down the percentage of flap mix, not the end point. I normally set my end points to 150% and dual rates to 125% (max on both) for starters, the set low rate and expo. I set the flaperon end points at this full throw, then later go back and reduce the mix percentage to what feels right.

Thanks Ed, I'm working on it right now, just stopped to check for any replies, I'll try your suggestion. I hope JR and Hitec are simillar.

I also noticed that one control horn is ever so slightly behind the true hinge line (and I mean it's hardly noticable, less than 1/16") possibly accounting for the diff. (slight mechanical geometry diff). I don't know how anyone could get that absolutely pertfect anyway, although some of you more experienced builders , I'm sure, have a way.

I thought I tried what you were talking about, Ed, before I posted this thread. But after rereading your sugg., I might need to find a flaperon menu, than set end points ( I am, just trying to get them parrallel, at high rates, than adjust from there; flaperon mix, dual rate, etc.) These darn computer radio's get me all discumbobulated 1/2 the time!

Thanks for the reply! I'll tell you how it goes.

I tried everything I could think of, and still, when I get the flaperons adjusted ( elev. to flap mixing), my reg. aileron end points change, and vice-a-versa.

What I have done, is do as Ed sugg. Also, I've gone into the flaperon menu and changed percentages up and down, but that also messes up reg. end points.

Very frustrating!

Any one had the same problem, or experience setting up the Eclipse 7? Maybe this radio won't do seperate end points for flaperons/aielerons? I hope it's just me.

help.

I just completed my repairs so i know how you feel...what you need to do is put in right or left aileron trim when the flaperons are on, get them to line up when on then turn them off and adjust your flaperon setting then, only one aileron should move during that, get it to line up there and wala, you're good, with a few other minor adjustments as well but once you do what i said you will know what to adjust.

Same thing baffled me. I use a Futaba 8UHFS and had to go to the mixing of the flaperons to get them straight.

Thanks Joe and Billy, I did have flaperon percentages off, changed them all back to 100%, and it "helped". But it still is weird how changing one thing , affects something else.

I've got everything dialed in really close ( just not perfect) and went a real round-a-bout way of getting what seems like should pretty easy to do.

Come to think of it, I did change flaperon %'s a little bit after I got them back to 100%, kinda like endpoints, but as I said before, it would change endpoints in reg. mode, so I just kept doing a little here & there till I found a pretty good compromise.

Like I said, close, but not exact. Man there's got to be an easier way to "isolate" just flaperon endpoints, maybe there is in higher dollar radio's. Don't get me wrong, I love the eclipse, for the money,( I just bought the radio w/ the gizzmo in back to change channels, and use futaba 3003 servo's, not a big fan of hitec servos) I guesse you get what you pay for! Unless I'm still missing something?

I went round and round with this and one day got it right. Since most of my planes are setup close I just copy the original (from my Knife) to my new planes (Pen Knife, GWB, etc.). Now I don't have to mess with it any more. I just have to trim out the plane.

Thanks Billy for understanding (that's not meant to sound gay). I guess it's one of those things I'll have to live with. Good idea about saving/transfering info to my next plane!

Just got back from the field a couple hours ago, and it flew pretty good with flaperon e>f mixing, although it did want to fall out of a loop a little. But a lot of that was probably due to the 20mph cross wind! It gave me some practice corecting in a loop.

Hopefully on a calm day, I can trim it out to do plenty of consecutive loops by just pulling back!

Any suggestions on trimming techniques would be appreciated! (I did laterally balance the thing, and built it pretty straight)

It gets bizzare..the endpoints on the aileron will affect the flaps, the flap rate changes one aileron..The DR settings of the Elevator will affect the flaperons. Everything affects everything else. The % mixing E>F will affect the throws if the Ail or Ele or mix ratio is out of wack.

You can get it perfect..it took me a couple of tries (Futaba 8UHS) and I have the extra book!! I just kept at it and kept at it..Finally found the things that were jackin' me up..

And then I did exactly like Billy..copied every plane off that one template.

just set the end points on my new sudo a while ago, and everything was fine after adjusting the flap mixing. Maybe I just get lucky or it because I fly JR
