Default scratch building seats

Does anybody remember the magazine and issue number that had the article on how to build and shape airplane seats out of styrofoam?

I would appreciate any help offered

Me too! I have a Byron's CAP-21 that I got from an estate sale, and it came with no seat. I tried heating a curved wire, and slicing through the foam, but it looks bad.

Looking back in my RCM magazines I found 2 articles that show seat construction techniques. The Feb. 2004 issue has an article " Finishing Touches, Adding Details ". Here the author Ken Estes, makes seats, instrument panel and decals for a Kavan Alouette helicopter.
The other is from June 2003 titled " Weathered Scale Cockpit Seats " by Gary Lennon.
The first article used green foam bricks from craft stores, and the second article used blue Dow extruded polystyrene. Hope this helps. Jim

thanx for the input. I think I might try using the rounded attachment on my old monocote trim iron to see if I can get the right contours.

All good.[8D] I am going to build a wing top box for my Telemaster 40 so I can do candy drops at the local full scale fly-in.

Candy drops are a kick in the butt! We have three small plastic eggs from easter that we put small slips of paper with a number written on them in with the candy. When the kids find the eggs, they turn the numbered pieces of paper in for cash and or prizes. The kiddies think it great

Here are four seat backs that I carved out of an insulation foam sheet. I first sliced out the rough shape of the whole seat back. Then I drew in the seat's sections and separated them. I sanded a nice round shape on the outer surfaces and glued them back together with a head rest on top. These are for a 1/6th scale plane and weigh next to nothing.
