I just pulled my old aerostar .40 and my 50% complete cherokee .40 out of the attic. The aerostar has a YS .45FS on it, and I have a 6 Ch. Futaba to control it all. Now, until a couple of days ago, I hadn't touched any of this stuff in approximately 16 years!! Both of the airplanes seem to be in decent shape, and believe it or not, after 20 minutes or so on the charger-all of the radio equipment works. Of course the battery packs all need to be replaced, but this seems to be a simple and inexpensive task. My plan is to get the trainer in the air, dust off the cobwebs (meaning the ones on me!), and finish the cherokee. Basically all that is left on the cherokee is the wing and then covering everything. I want to then just swap the radio equipment and engine to the new plane and hang the poor old aerostar up for good. The problem is the engine situation. The old YS is locked up like two dogs in the front yard! I have tried everything I know to do and stripped everything off of the engine that I can t try to free it up. I think its scrapped, besides that I cant find new gaskets for it anyway. My question is: Should I just bite the bullet and buy a new engine, and if so, which one? Thanks in advance for any advice!

there is one thing left to try, remove all the rubber parts that you can and place it in the oven at about 220 degrees for about 30 minutes then try to turn it oover while holding with an oven mit.this usually will soften up congealed castor oil as well as expands the parts abit.hope you have tried soaking on old fuel first as this is a last resort but usually works when all else fails.good luck

I planned on coming back with the same or similar size. I've just been away from the r/c world for so long I have no idea who makes good solid engines anymore. I should have been more specific! What would be........say the top 3 I should consider?

Hi, I agree with Dave a good .46 would be a good investment.I like the ones with a rear mounted needle valve.Magnum has a nice .46 for $69.I would replace the fuel tank also, a leaking fuel tank can do a lot of damage if it starts during a flight. Welcome back Dan
