Default Flaps/flaperons down question

I've got several planes that I'd like to program flaps and flaperons into my radio. Quesion is, what kind of flap/elevator should I program in to keep them level while descending?

Up or down elevator?

You would use down enevator. I would start with about 5% and work from there. The exact amount will be different for each plane and flap setting.

Actually, that would depend on your CG. If the CG is back far enough you'll need down elevator. If the CG is a little more forward, you'll need up elevator to keep it level. Usually, on a new plane, I'll hit the flapperons in flight to see what it does, then make adjustments from there. speed will also play a part in it. Another way to test it is the yard dart technique. Either way will produce the same result. There is no "one answer fits all" to that question. Depending on the plane, I would program the elevator for level flight at slow speeds. I only use the flapperons on my 3D planes, and they don't fly fast anyways.

I just programmed the flaperons on my Dynaflite Spitfire and there is a significant downward pitch with the flaperons engaged. My Byron Corsair (with separate flaps) just mushed straight ahead. It all depends on the plane. Myself, I would rather just use the elevator as needed because conditions are never going to be the same.

I engaged my flaps on my Ultrastick and the plane immediately pitched nose up and stalled so I landed it and put in 5% down flap/elevator mix and tried it again. Still pitched up so in went 15% down flap/elevator mix which seemed just right with 20% throttle. Thanks for the advice guys
