oderless CA is it safe?

"I use the odorless stuff and it's fine. Expensive, though. "
I saw this posted and asked if there were any others who had evidence that oderless CA was really safe or just "no fumes".
I think this is important and if there is a safer CA , I would start using it. I worked in a plant and we had stuff that was terrable nasty stuff, but it did not really smell . I can't spell the name of the stuff , but they keep it under lock and key and had to be dispenced by a supervisor. It did not smell, just like oderless CA. Was it safe, I don't think so.
Is there anything at all proving oderless CA is safer???

No, I stoped using CA's a long time agow as I became Hypersensitive to it. Went back to using good old white glue, and only use CA's now for joining sheeting for covering wings and only use it outside with a breathing mask.
Cheers.

All cyanoacrylates are dangerous. I don't use them (any of them) much any more. I have been building for 59 years, and even though I didn't develop any adverse reactions to the CA's, I just don't like the stuff. If you use an accelerator, the joints are more brittle, than if you don't. I went back to using alaphatics (Titebond, Titebond II and Elmers). You get more work time, and the joints are much more sandable. Yes, Cyanoacrylates can be some very nasty stuff. I would reccomend staying away from it as much as possible.

I have a terrible sensitivity to CA as well. Last year I tried the "foam safe" or "odorless" CA and can say that it doesn't cause me a problem. I can't get anywhere near the regular CA without my nasal and sinus passages swelling. Last summer my EARS were plugged when I tried to use regular CA out side.
Having said that, I only use the odorless CA in very limited applications. I use it to harden wood threads, or temporarily hold a piece that cannot be otherwise clamped or taped. I also use it for some quick repairs.

OK, guess I will try the oderless in limited amounts with ventilation.
I like to build and without using CA it will slow things down, I can run two projects at a time though.
still nothing clear on oderless being safe, but I will agree its probably safer than regular.
Maybe I should get with someone and get the specks on oderless, the hasmat papers and see for myself. I will try and post what I find out.......
Thanks

The problem with CA is that different people react differently. You can look at the Material Safety Data Sheet, but it won't tell you how you'll react. The only way to be sure it to try it, but use caution. Plenty of ventilation, and even consider using an air filter mask with an organic vapor cartridge. If you experience any indication of allergic response (may take a number of hours to develop), quit using it.

I too have developed a sensitivity to CA so I stay away from it except for very limited applications. That said, although the odorless doesn't seem to present a problem, I suspect the same allergents are present. Case in point, consider carbon monoxide; it's odorless, but deadly. Maybe I'm wrong, but I would recommend playing safe by minimal usage of CA, odorless or otherwise.
Just my 2 cents.
