Default Thottle setup

Hello to all

I was considering using a dubro cable with quik connectors at both ends on my throttle setup for a hellcat 60 arf ..does that work well or is there something better? Advice would be appreciated. Thanks

I like to use one of those slide through with clamp screw connectors at the servo for the throttle

www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p I prefer the gold n rod setup, I'll even trade out one of the metal clevises for a nylon one so there is no metal to metal contact.

Quick connect on one end and solder on a clevis on the other

thanks for the advice W8ye, redfox435, Graybeard...

is there any reason why the slide through and screw (ala quick connector ) can't be on both ends?

I would use a fixed(soldered) clevis at the throttle end and a threaded connector(http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...XD888&P=SM) sized appropriately for you flex cable with clevis at the servo end. The easy connects that w8ye referenced are used often. However, they do have two failure points. It is not uncommon for the set screw to loosen or the retainer clip to vibrate loose. The threaded connector, referenced above, allows you to cut the cable to the approximate length and then make final cable length adjustments by screwing the servo end clevis in or out.

I've done it ans it can work. there a two problem I've had with it. One metal to metal contact causeing interferance. Two The flex cable binding. I solved the binding issue by wicking solder for about 3 inch of the flex cable, solved the interferance issue by soldering on a threded and and using a nylon clevis to isolate the metal to metal contact or use a metal clevis on the servo side. I've never had an issue with the flexable nylon pushrod.

To date I have never had the set screw come loose on a quick connector. The problem with them is they do tend to loosen up and wobble giving some slop to your connection that will show itself as a lack of throttle response, even using the metal back plate and setting it with a slight hammer tap. Ihave used them on both ends without any trouble but it does tend to double the slop you will end up with. Istill use one on the throttle arm and a clevis soldered to the one end of the cable on a number of set ups. They work but there are better ways to set up a throttle. FYI, there are clevises that say solder clevis on the package, they are silver in color, much easier to work with then the golden clevis.

I'm with Gray Beard on this one. I have never used one of those EZ connectors that didn't loosen up after time. I don't use them any where on my planes anymore. My throttle setups now are generally a mix of Z bends, solder and threaded clevis's, depending on what works fora givenapplication.

Also setup so thethrotle arm on theservo somost of it's movement is across across the midrange of the carburator. You can much better control speed this way.</p>
