Hi guys. I have been flying a trainer that was given to me. It came with a Futaba FP-R128DF FM reciever on channel 34(dual conversion) . I bought a Futaba crystal on channel 28 (dual conversion)so I could use my Hitec transmitter from my electric planes to fly this one. It has been working great.
Over the weekend, I got a good deal on a Futaba FP-T7NFK "Conquest" transmitter on channel 30 (gold sticker), thinking I could just use the Hitec channel 28 crystal and everything would be cool. Not so, when I put the crystal in and turned everything on, the servos just went nuts, jittering and no control at all.
Any ideas on what the problem might be? I'm no radio expert.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Rob

If it were legal in the US to swap the crystals... and it's not, by the way...
You would probably want a Futaba crystal made for the transmitter.
Another brand may or may not work.
It's entirely possible that you got a bad tranny, too... but I'd suspect the crystal.

Thanks for your reply. Legality in changing crystals was one of the questions I asked BEFORE I bought this Tx. Guess I should have known better than to ask the guys selling the stuff!
Now I know.
At least I only spent $20 on the Tx, so I'm not out too much.
Thanks again,
Rob

All may not be lost, depending on whether you want to spend a bit more or not.
You said the tranny was on channel 30?
Swapping receiver crystals is just fine... it's the transmitting stuff you aren't
supposed to tinker with. (though lots of people do it anyhow, I know.)
Anyways, just pickup a Futaba Dual Conversion crystal for the receiver... channel 30.
It "might" be worth a shot.
If it were me, I'd find a buddy with a Futaba receiver already on 30,
and see if your transmitter even works, to begin with... before spending more dough.

My LHS is pretty good about letting me try crystals in a situation like this. I'll take the Tx and my plane there and check it out before I buy one.
I wasn't sure about switching frequencies. I know we did it all the tme when I was racing RC cars.
Thanks for filling me in.
