Hey, Im looking at upgrading my engine and pipe for my buggy, as u can see from my title. Being only 15 I dont have alot of money to work with and am therefore looking for a reliable, powerful cheap engine. At the moment I have three engines in mind, them being the Wasp .26, Diablo .28 and the XTM 247 Pro. I am after some advice on which of these engines would be better for me. I am mainly just using my buggy for bashing around the backyard and street. If anyone who has had personal experiences with one or more of these engines could please let me know what u think of them or could suggest other engines that would be great.
I am also looking at 2 pipes, them being the JP-1 and the JP-2, again if anyone could advise me on what choice to make that would be great.
Cheers
Josh

of the 3 u mentioned, i would take the xtm 24.7 pro. it has lots of power, it is very easy to tune, and is extremely reliable. the OS RG is good too, but the xtm will have a littlemore power.

After looking at all the engines I found that the diablo .28 was probobly the most powerful engine so is there anyone out there who could shed some light on this engine??

what RPM does it make that power at?
remember if you have a buggy with no 2 speed tranny you need motor RPM to get top speed. a .28 may make 3 HP but at what RPM? if it is only 2/3 the RPM of a .21 engine you will need to gear way up or loose top speed. I mentioned the OS rg cause that is the only under 300 dollar motor I have personal experience with.

it states max HP and max RPM but it doesn't say what RPM it makes 2.8 HP at.
anyway I never had that motor so I can't comment. for sure it will have planty of torque with that displacment.

easy to tune.
strong idle.

and really cheap....
the JP's I havn't used and can't comment.
I had a RG ;RZ; vo1b;VZb ; RBs7 and now 2 P5's which I like the best so far.

Would there be much difference between the RG and the diablo or 24.7 pro?? The P5 would also be my first choice if I had more money [&o] hmmmph

i could be wrong here but the RG is more like a detuned race engine.
the others are RTR sport engines. but lets wait for other opinions. all I know is what I've "touched"

I only have experience with the OS RG and the JP-1 pipe. I'm quite happy with the value/performance ratio. As you say:
The OS RG is certainly reliable and certainly cheap (price wise). Is it powerful enough for what you want?? Depends. Its not a screamer like a V-spec, but has nice low end grunt. You didn't indicate what engine you are replacing, or which buggy you're putting them in, so I can't say if this combo will be better than what you had. For those on a budget, I feel you can't go wrong. My $.02

Im putting it into my PRP Swift 2. I am replacing the stock engine, ive been having problems with it and im just dead set fed up with it, apart from that im not happy with the preformance. As I said in one of my previous posts im after acceleration more than top speed.

Have to say OS .21RG. Put on a 13t clutch bell and you have plenty of lowend power. The reliability and price of the RG is hard to beat.

i would highly recomend the mach .26, the truggies at my track, or atleast the fast ones, run those engines along with jp2's and their lap times rival the buggies.plus i think its only $$139 bux$$

Also whats the difference between the RG and the RG-X?

OS .21RG : start with starter box, not a pilot shaft
OS .21RG(X) : pull start, non pilot shaft
OS .21RG-P : start with starter box, pilot shaft (what you need for buggies)
OS .21RG-P(X) : pull start with pilot shaft.

hey im pretty new my names Patrick and im 13 but you can call me patchy.....i like your choices for which engine you want...diablo .28 is pretty cool. My friend has the xtm 24.7 pro but the pullstart sucks. I'd ditch it and save up a litte for a starter box. the os rg .21 i heard is also very good. Easy to tune and pretty powerful its not a full blown race engines though like the os vz-b .21. But the rg is really good and it's pretty cheap. It also depends on how much your willing to spend. The xtm 24.7 i think at hobby people is like 159.99 now and the diablo im not sure i think i saw it for 189.99 ( not sure ) and the rg is around 129.99 i think?? not sure....but just because im 13 please don't doubt me of what i know of rc....as of the prices for the engines im pretty sure the price of the xtm and the os is right...the diablo im not sure........
Overall i'd have to go with the os rg .21 its easy to tune and easy to start
p.s. do you have a PRP Swift?....looks like one in that pic.
I have a swift too but unfortunately the outdrive gears are stripped...
hope this helps
