Default Set-up for this track?

My Hyper 7 TQ will be hear soon and this is some pics of the track I will be running at. Was hoping you guys could give me a ball park setting with diff oils and shock oils to start off with. Im new to buggies and racing so just something to get me started until I learn how to set up myself. Not sure how these pics will look, I copied them off the internet. Its a hard packed clay that they wet down before they race. They change it often, still has that one big jump and a bunch of little ones with alot of tight turns, really only one maybe 100ft straight. Thanks for any advice . Maybe a tire also, was thinking bowties, but what do I know I think these are pics of when they were changing the layout in the past. Its really hard packed now.

The best help is at your local track. Ask around for the best general setup.

I would but they only seem to race at the end of every month, so it wont be till the end of December. I want to start practicing during the weeks before I goto work. I drive by it during the week and there is never anyone there. I have been doing alot of searching on diff oils and guess a good starting point would be 5,7,2 . I will keep searching. Just figured maybe someone with experience would see the pics of the track and know what he might start off with.

Is there a hobby shop near? They would know.

You can always go by what the manual suggests.

My LHS didnt even know about the track and he has mostly just airplanes so I will have to get it all online. So after all my searching I have come up with this for starters. 5,7,2 diff oils. 40wt front shocks and 35wt in the rear. Ofna purple med shock springs. Also thinking about getting the Panther Chameleon med/soft tires on the proline wabash rims. I will run the buggy stock then change these things and see how it goes. Already ordered the cnc chassis braces,Airtronics 94358Z steering servo and a receiver pack. Now I just have to learn how to drive and set-up

I have not seen anyone there in the last 2 weeks. That is during the day though.I will try on the weekend. That jump in the pic was fun with my revo, but I managed to bend my header on landing when I cleared the other jump instead of comming down it.Cant wait to take my buggy out there.

yes, has a little steel pole out there to put in 3 dollars if you use the track as a donation to keep it up.

I run 5-7-2 at my track with no front sway bar, 40 shocks all around with mugen grey springs in the front and softer blue springs in the back, I will adjust preload spacers as necessary. We have a huge jump like that in your pic except for the HORRIBLE wooden sides, dont screw up and misalign your jump or say good bye to your A arms. You may want to stiffen up your sway bars because those little chicanes are going to be tough if your pushing on power. Looks like a lot of those little triples and doubles are quite steep, so you may want to mess with your shock fluids and stiffen them up a little. I like my buggy real soft, you may be different. I like crimefighters but if they are running wet then bowties may be a good choice to keep the clay from globbing on and making slicks.

Thanks MorganSS, I was going to get the bowties but tried a cheap bid on ebay for the panther chameleons, set of 4 brand new in the bag. I cant beleive I won them for $16.00. A set of 2 on towers is like almost $20.00. I will use these for starters. That big jump in the pic has the clay built up even with the side boards now, I think that was a pic of when they were changing the layout, all the triples and doubles are rounded at the top and not as steep. I ordered all the fluids Sunday that I stated above, so glad to see Im in the ball park with the tips you gave me. Thanks again.

no problem, have a good time, I am def no setup-guru but I know what I personally like to drive, honestly I run almost the same setup everywhere I go with minor tweaks here and there mainly with my shocks. Once you find out what you like its just minor adjustments to get it totally dialed in to your driving style. Just remember the main thing is to make smart decisions about what your doing, if you arent lined up for the big jump then just roll it, you wont lose that much time, I have a ton of respect for people who know when they shouldnt pin the throttle, just this weekend I made the mistake of slapping my front tires on the flat part of the track exploding my front shock, trust me, driving the remainder of a 25 minute A main with 3 shocks was NO fun but I did it, and had a 13 second lead before it happened, I finished 4th out of 11 people and missed out on a SWEET trophy. Im still kicking myself for doing it but I def learned a lesson. Im pretty good about not wrecking and even if your faster than me, Id bet money that your going to wreck and Im gonna get by. Hang with it and get some help from the guys at the track, Im just glad to see someone who is actually racing, rather than bashing, bashing is for sissies.

Have a blast

from the looks of the dirt clay/sand mix. i'd go with a bowtie or crimefighter in a m2 or m3
or komoto 2's in a soft compound

go to ofnaracing.com for set up sheets from the pros. It will tell you what track conditions they had, and what set up they used. If it gives only track name, google it, or youtube it to see the track. It is hard to give a perfect answer you can use on set up. All depends on how you drive agressive, non agressive, do you wait for openings, or do you make openings? Do you like to make a triple triple out of a six pack or 3 doubles? Do you feel more comfortable on the ground or in the air? Drive the track stock set up and see what you need to change. I have been to many races where every driver in the race has a diff. set up. This is one part of the hobby that is pure feel on the drivers part. Track looks like fun. Enjoy.

I almost forgot

DOWNLOAD THE XRAY XB8 MANUAL, and read the setup pages at the back of the book, it breaks everything down to a simple science, helped me tremendously

Thanks for all the tips guys, Looks like I should have just got the bowties like I originally planned since so many seem to agree on them. I tried that ofna racing website for setup sheets, but none of the links seem to work. I did download the Xray manual and that does help out alot, They break it all down for you. Thanks MorganSS. I have alot to learn on set-up from reading that!
