My brother gave me his RC buggy because he doesn't have the time anymore...
It's a Hyper 7 with a Ofna 26 engine.... This is probably a really silly question to most.
I get it to start and then it cuts off really quickly. I have no clue what to do?
Can anyone direct me?

How new is the engine?
When was it last tuned?
How new are you to nitro?
Are you sure everything is set ready for idle (radio carb etc)
The carb should be open just 1.5mm at closed throttle to allow idling.
So assuming everything else is in order (which is a big assumption) I would say your too rich. lean it out a little on the LSN
Try and give us a little more information

the engine is probably 2 years old... and most likely hasn't been tuned since.
I'm really new to nitro. I think everything is set to idle
how much is 1.5 mm???? LSN?
I get the car started and then it just shuts off with a clicking of the pull start. didn't really have time to mess with it today.

Take off the filter and look down the barrel of the carb. Ensure that when the trigger is closed the carb just has an opening of 1.5 mm. replace the filter. Now get the manual for your engine online, set to factory settings then turn the LSN (low speed needle) 1/12th clockwise. Try and start it. If it still does the same turn it 1/12th again. Once the engine idles and moves when throttle is applied then start turning the HSN out 1/8th turn at a time till it pulls like it should (you will be able to tell by the sound when its right. you should have light blue smoke at full throttle. Pinching the fuel line just in front of the carb and the engine should run for about 4 seconds, rev up a little then die. if it does that your pretty much tuned.

when the trigger is off?
I took the filter off and it seems like it is 1.5mm open..... the filter is super dirty. could that be a problem also?
I can make the adjustments tonight but won't be able to run it until tomorrow... I live in an apartment complex and dont want to make any one angry. I appreciate your help jonnymac... keep in touch please.
I'm really new to this and need some guidance.

Do not adjust anything until you have fresh fuel and a new plug, only then will you know if it tuned or not, you will obviously need a new filter if it's as messed up as you say.

If the filter is dirty replace it or at the very least clean and re-oil it.
Try what i said and get back to me. Its difficult whne you start out but after a short while it becomes easier.
My only concern is that its a 2 year old engine but you could be OK? Do you knw how much fuel he put through the engine.

There is specific filter oil I would recommend. If your just checking it out clean it thoroughly and oil it with some sticky oil (lightly) so it tacky to touch. Then get to the hobby shop and buy new filters and oil at the earliest oppourtunity.

i actually just cleaned the filter (the foam), and it cleaned up pretty well, so maybe that isn't as much of a concern as i thought. I will get some oil at the hobby shop tomorrow.
Jonny, is there a shelf life on RC fuel?
I'm signing off for tonight. I appreciate all your help. I'll get back to you tomorrow about those adjustments.

As the majority of nitro fuel is methanol, Which is highly hygroscopic (absorbs water), once opened it slowly starts to degrade.
You can try it, but as Da smak said above, to optimise your chances of success change your fuel and plug as well if you can. These are cheap things and will only help the running of the engine. There are ways of storing fuel to make it last longer and now your in the hobby it would serve you well to search out a few threads on fuel, general engine care, types of plugs etc. but for now just optimise as much as you can to increase your chances of success.
