The wheels should not be spinning if its off the ground.
Lower the idle ajustment screw a fraction (anti clockwise) or maybe slightly richen the low speed.

Sometimes it has nothing to do with the needle settings. If your servo trim is a little off (more throttle) it can seem like the engine is giving a very high idle. Not as big a possibility, but a thought.

it starts easy, but right after break in i crashed it into a cement pole and the wheel broke off so i haven't gotten a chance to see exactly how good and how tuff it is.

Actually I think you have already tested how "tuff" it is

robitronic stuff are good but i think protos its not so good...
i have robitronic mantis (truggy) and now i am coming to buggy world and i am going with the hyper 8.5. Robitronic mantis is a rly good truck but protos its more like a toy almost everything on it are plastic.

People don't like all the plastic but from what I have seen and heard it is fairly durable. I wouldn't give up on it, till I try one.

We like our new Protos!! We just got it from Tower, $255 delivered.

Its only our 2nd RC nitro car, so we carefully read all the instructions, which are quite good, before we tried anything.

I got some high quality 25% fuel and got all the batteries charged up and went for the break in procedure. It took a few tries, but she finally fired up and I went through 4 full tanks of fuel at a nice low idle.

I then tested out the radio and attempted to drive it, but the steering mechanism was very far off, plus the engine, at its default settings, is running so rich it had no power to get going.

So, back to the lab bench for tweaking. Despite these minor setbacks, my son and I are looking forward to a lot of fun with this model.

No problem! After about an hour of tweaking, we got the steering ironed out. The steering servo arm is not centered at neutral though. I probably have to remove the arm and put it on the next position. Close enough for training for now.

The first startup after all that was a little troublesome, but we got it going. Tuned it to running just a little rich now, but plenty of speed and some smoke at all thottle levels. Running under 210 degrees F. peak. Cool.

Burned through an entire quart of fuel and totally wore out the front tires and it seems the brakes are done too. Lots of power drifting, no major crashing. Flipped her once, but she landed right and kept going. That was neat. After the 3rd tank we tried some full throttle runs. She screams good.

Lotta fun!

This engine is still new and tight so I am keeping it rich for now. Still around 210.

How do you measure? I just come straight down with the temp guage right over the glow plug. Seems to give the highest reading.

What mods do you recommend?

Cool, thanks for the tips! Too bad you're way out there in Chicago, we'd be racing! [sm=devious.gif]

I found a parking lot to terrorize at lunchtime today. She running great. Street tires working fine - did some power drifting and weaving between trees. Took a decent hit on a curb, nearly head on. No damage!

I am pleased that the street tires are not showing signs of extreme wear, but it was only a tank and a half today. And the asphalt was smooth, no dirt or sand on anywhere. I am still searching for a good off-road location to abuse. [sm=tongue_smile.gif]

Its most likely a good idea to get a extra gas tank... I broke mine and no place carried it... do all of your shopping at SK motion.. Or a hobby store that gets supplied by sk... they have every part and hop up part in stock for the protos... mine does not even look like a protos anymore... it will run with the rc8's

Woo hoo! My son and I burned through another few tanks on a big parking lot with a nice big patch of dirt in the middle. Perfect for sliding around and donuts. Even hopped up some curbs and tore up some shrubbery. Took another flip and two more curb hits - No Damage!

This was the first time I got this model (or any other car model for that matter) completely filthy! My wife is a neat freak so I had to clean it up good before taking it back inside. Never had to do this before.

After thinking about it, I went for a bucket of soapy water and a large, soft paintbrush. Dig the mini-car-wash! Worked great. After mopping up, then I removed the body shell and just mopping with a rag and some WD-40 did pretty good. Washed and re-oiled the air filter, after-run oiling, now ready for more fun again!

This is a pretty solid model and is working out great for a couple of goofballs like us!
