So I'm buying new tires and rims for my Ravager but I don't want the regular white rims in what ever style I get. I'm considering chrome, gun metal gray (kind of chromed) or black in the BBS style. [)]
How durable is the chrome finish on 1/8 rims? If they peel with a hit, is the base material black, white..?
What do you guys recommend?

Chrome wheels peel off easily and look awful- if you are only bashing they will probably last longer, but if you race theres a lot of banging and crashing. I´ve had some Kyosho and HPI chromed rims... the inside was white in both cases.
Anyway all of them - no matter what color - are made of plastic so they scratch, get smudged, dirty, etc., very easily. I Do have a friend who went to a local metal works shop where they make aluminum parts and had custome made aluminum rims... they where $60 a pop but are awesome, lightweight and very resistant...but I think thats a litlle bit over the top.
In conclusion all chromed rims pretty much will peel off so just take it as "part of the game".

Thanks for the info. I thought that was the case since I know the chrome is a finish and not the product.
I don't race, but I do bash the thing on dirt, gravel and grass so the white wheels I currently have are pretty scratched, so I can imagine the chromed wheels look worst. Knowing they will peal at some point I thought that if the plastic was black and not white it wouldn't be that visible, but if the plastic under the chrome finish is white it will look worst than I'm willing to have it look. I may just have to go with black wheels, since I suspect black wheel are made of black plastic and not necessarily white plastic painted black.

I've got a set of street tires mounted on ofna six spoke wheels with "chrome"
finish. I used to use them all the time, and they look like crap now. the finish is flaking off, and both the chrome and uncovered white plastic is all scratched up and filthy. Personally, I've found that chrome wheels just look stupid on most r/c cars anyway, especially 1/8 buggies. IMO, the only colored wheels that belong on an 1/8 scale buggy are white and yellow. [8D]

You can run them if you like the look., but they won't look great for long as every said. If you do use them, before you glue your tires sand the chrome off where you are going to glue them, or the tire will seperate from the rim after a few days.

I made up my mind that chrome is not the way...[)] I like the dark chrome (gun metal) but I'll prabably buy black rims.
The white rims look fine but the florecent rims (green, red, orange, yellow) look too much like a toy and less like a high performance 1/8 model IMO, which is what it is...![)]

Dont buy chrome wheels for a buggy. In fact dont buy RC chrome wheels unless its a shelf queen. It will always come off no mtter how careful you drive. Also you could dye your own white wheels any color you want.

Because you dont have spokes, which need to be beefed up with thicker plastic. The one piece design of the dish makes for a lighter rim.
