Default Buggy Shock Question

I have a sportwerks turmoil pro with a Shock piston 2 hole 1.2mm. I would like to change this to a 4 hole because this is what most of the guys at my track run... Since I am new to this I was wondering where I could look for the four hole? Can I use something other than sportwerks parts in it?

thx

pistons are brand specific....so in reality u need to use a Sportwerks piston....Unless u have buddy's with other buggy's u could try different brand pistons.......u could also drill the 2 hole to a 4 hole...if u had the proper size bit...but then would obviously be stuck running a 4 hole.....why do u want to change it anyways ? just because guys at the track have it ? do u need extra pack ? are u scrubbing speed off on the jumps ?

those shocks you have should be fine if you set them up right, we have a few guys at our track with the Turmoil Pro and they can out handle most of us because they have their buggy set up right.

I just can't get my suspension as soft as the other guys.. the 8ight's the rc8's just asborb the rough track and bite so well.. like I said I have the same shock weight and springs as the other and that seems to be the only difference

Don't believe everything you read about spring weights,( one brand to the next are all different with the same weight numbers) [:@] sounds like you need a softer spring with a little more height [:-]

Actually I thought that too.. but we are all running AE Fluids... could it be the actual shock itself?

If your shocks are a little to stiff, just drill out the holes a little in the shock piston to soften them up a bit.

It could be several different things. You may not want to mimic the other racers because you have your own driving style and you have to adjust for that. Also dont listen to people that think you have to spend your money on a $700 kit to win a race. There are RC8, Losi 8, jammin, and turmoils at the track near me and the turmoils stay right with the rest.

in the B sportsman maby.....No level headed racer would choose the turmoil over a Losi AE Kcar or Any other brand name.....turmoil's are RTR level entry vehicles...plain and simple...sure they can be raced....but dont handle near as well or do what the losi AE or Xray can with little effort.

They are not all rtr, they had an ARR and a kit with all the racing hop ups. The companies that have larger followings are more appealing because they have aftermarket support, sponsor racers and people buy whatevers popular anyway. If you notice a lot of racers drop whatever they have to get the newest thing even if there already winning its just how things are. Im not saying the Turmoil is the best buggy or of the same quality but you get a little ridiculous downing anything that you dont deem worthy.

our locals have the Race Roller version and it's nothing like the 8ight Race Roller. I'm tired of people saying that just because you own an 8ight or RC8, that you're just jumping on the bandwagon...i know i bought the 8ight because my LHS has a lot of parts for them AND they're popular for a reason, they're one of the best buggies out right now. Why go with a different buggy just to be different? I don't settle for less than the best and that's what i went with, i'm not driving a Sportwerks, OFNA, Duratrax or any other mid-level buggy for a reason, i don't wanna drive at a mid-level pace. The Turmoil, Hyper series and buggies of that nature aren't gonna be seen in the A-Mains of the open/pro classes for a reason, they're not intended to be there.

You should not use what the RC8 guys are running in there shocks as
a guage for yours. If they are up to date on the team setup they will
have already done the emulsion mod and be running either a 4 hole
piston in 1.4x2 / 1.2x2 or 1.5x2/1.2x2. Some of the guys are starting
to favor a three hole setup also. I run 55wt in the front and 50wt in the
rear and thats pretty thick oil for a 2 hole blader shock, but it works
quite well in an emulsion 4 hole setup.

If you really want to tinker with your shocks you will need some of these.

One of these.

A bunch of these. You want page 59. Print off ans many as you can.

And some different weight fluids. Try to find another racer with some
experince to help you sort it out. Also you should, like Integra said
have a specific goal in mind, whats your car doing wrong? if you
post that someone may be able to help you. After that its a matter
of track time and good note taking. Just remember only change
one thing at a time or you lose the rabbit.

Change, record, drive, record. Setup sheets are your friend.

Taylor James Wins Pre-Worlds 2 Championship
OFNA/Jammin pilot Taylor James TQ's & WINS the Pre-Worlds Championships.

It was a hard run to the finish, taking the victory in the last 10 minutes of this one hour race. Early on second place Tebo battled with Cavalieri, but Cavalieri faded and this allowed Ty Tessman to secure the third place and Cavalieri got forth. Taylor was running the Jammin X1-x Worlds edition soon to be released.

Taylor James TQ's Pre-Worlds 2
OFNA/Jammin team driver Taylor James repeats his TQ finish, taking the TQ at both Pre-Worlds 1 & 2. Taylor confirmed, that he is the the fastest driver at the World's. Driving his new Jammin X1x-WorldsTQ addition, soon be released, Taylor put out three super fast rounds.

You might want to leave Ofna/Jammin off the mid level buggy list.

Ryan Maifield driving the The Thunder Tiger EB4 S3 Buggy won the 2006 ROAR Off-Road Nationals.

You'll rarely see anyone driving a Thunder Tiger let alone the buggy. And people will tell you its a mid level buggy.

Although I don't think a turmoil has won a national yet.

Im not saying sportswerks has, but like he said these buggies(turmoil,OFNA/Jammin, Thunder Tiger) are all in the same category and they have won. I didnt mean to offend anyone just state that people shouldnt bash someones mid level rc and tell them theyll never win with it. I didnt say anyone was hopping on any bandwagon either but people do go for the newest models. Its funny how I always hear that its 10% car and 90% driver but then people argue about which car is best.

yes, 2006 is before the 8ight, RC8, 808 and all high-end buggies were even out. I know that there was a time that the Jammin was one of the best buggies that could be bought. Now that we're almost in '09, the Mid-level buggies aren't gonna be seen in the front of the A-Main, but if they are, they're not a stock RTR running a garbage motor.
