I have a DX3 but now use a React. Keep the DX3 as a spare now. I had a run away with my DX3 when my RX battery got low. So I emailed Spektrum and they said no it does not have a fail safe for a low RX battery. I do not think even the newer DX2.0 or the DX3.0 has it either.

You also don't necessarily need to retire any of your buggies. The other great thing about modern radio systems is they can handle multiple vehicles.
Just get more of the correct receivers. Up to 10 models, 1 radio = sweet

Depends on what radio you have as some of the Spektrums only allow 2 models. [:@] My Radio holds up to 40 models.
I all so push a button on my TX and I know what my engine temperature is or RX battery voltage and more.

if you have a 3pk, you have unlimited model memory with removable rom packs!
lol. I think its like 30 or something around there though.

I went with the Hyper 7 TQ Black. Got it for $279.99 shipped so that's not too shabby.
This one comes with the Hyper .21, not the .26. That's a good thing for me since I have dreams of racing it. Is this hyper the 8 port or what? Also has full universals in the center, front and rear shafts instead of dogbones. 14mm shocks. Seems to also have a lot of aluminum and grpahite as well. For the price I'm happy you guys pointed this one out to me.
Should have it late this week or early next week.
Can't wait to get it.

Hey, huminski!
Where'd you get the Hyper 7 TQ Black for $279.99 shipped?? [sm=confused.gif] That's a pretty decent price!

Got it from omnimodels.com. $299 - $20 code and free shipping. Tower was the same price but $10 for shipping. Makes no sense since omni and tower are basically one in the same but whatever, I'm not complaining. It just arrived yesterday. It's really really nice. The little extra touches like the fuel bottle, glow ignitor and tools are a reall ynice plus. The fuel bottle is actually pretty high quality with a blue anodized spout.
Speaking of Omni, my Hyper 7 arrived with a broken (hairline cracks only) reciever box (looks like the guy in the ofna factory pushed down too hard on the air filter mounting bracket) and a questionable on/off switch. It would not always turn on when I switched it. Since I did not want to risk a runaway with the new buggy I swapped in a switch I had lying around.
So I called Omni this morning and got a very polite lady on the phone, and explained that the buggy arrived with the problems above. Witthout any other questions she ordered me up a replacement radio box and a new switch and said it will be shipped out today. I then asked if I could add a 5 cell 2/3A stick pack for the reciever on to that shipment so I could avoid shipping on the pack, she said sure and added that too (I paid for the battery of course).
Yery happy with Omni.
As far as the buggy, I set up the radio last night and started break-in. I like to run heli fuel for break-in, it contains 20% oil so it will be a lot more gentle on the motor and cool better during this critical time. I fly helis so I have it on hand. I ran two tanks through the buggy so far at a high idle, engine hasn't missed a beat so far. Both tanks ran straight through at a consistent RPM until the tank was empty. Engine started right up on the second or third pull after I primed it up initially. Top of the head remained hot but not too hot to lay your hand on during my first two tanks. Tonight I'll run a third tank through at high idle and then take her out for some "on the wheels" break-in. I don't start to really push my engines until I get at least 6 tanks thorough them in a controlled break-in process, I've been very lucky over the years with this method.
So far so good. I'll post up some photos when I get a chance, but it looks exactly like every other hyper-7 out there at this point.

Yes I have found both Tower Hobbies and there sister company Omni to have GREAT customer service. huminski I would like to post part of and article that I have found to be true from experience. Keep in mind air engines and buggy truck engines have big differences like most air engines only turn less then 1/2 the RPM that truck and buggy engines do. Not trying to tell you what to do just relaying my experiences.
Why 8% to 12% Oil
Using high oil content fuels in gas car engines won't provide improved engine life, as some would expect. Through extensive testing we've discovered the point of diminishing return as far as oil content to engine life is actually around 8% for most car engines. In other words any more oil than 8% in the fuel does noting to improve the life of a car engine. In fact the secondary effects of high oil content fuels can actually cause engine damage by encouraging over lean runs. Here's how.
Using high oil content fuel causes a car engine to be unresponsive during acceleration acting as if the engine were running rich. Typically when using high oil content fuel, in order to get crisp acceleration and response, an engine will need to be adjusted overly lean. In addition the high oil content prevents lean bog when an engine is over-leaned thus allowing the engine to run at this lean setting without the customary telltale lean bog warning letting you know the engine is overheating.
In summary, high oil content fuels don't give added protection. The point of diminishing return from a protection standpoint in a gas car application is about 8% oil depending on the oil type and engine. Anymore oil than this doesn't offer added protection and has potential secondary effects that reduce performance and can actually cause you to over lean your engine in an attempt to get crisp throttle response and acceleration.

Thanks, and that is correct.
I only use the heli fuel for break-in. I use Byron 3000 (30% nitro, 11% oil) for general running.
I run my engines slobberingly rich for break in. I am not concerned about preformance at this point and do not start to lean the motor out until I transition over to "car" fuel. For the first three tank (on the bench break-in) I actually drape a towel around the exhaust so I don't make a complete mess with all the oil coming out of the pipe.
But thanks for the article reference, even though I am aware of the differences some folks may benefit from it and I wouldn't want someone to read my post and think they should run all the time on air fuel.

And one more question, for the stick pack holder that comes with the hyper, does it accomodate a 5 cell 2/3A form factor? I sure as hell hope so.....
Ordered this pack:

Thanks for the info. Sounds like Omni treated you right, and I'm glad to hear that!
Also sounds like you're well on your way to breaking in and enjoying the buggy - have a ball!

huminski congrats on your buggy purchase....ya might look at a nomadio radio...you can get them from amain for about the same price as a specktrum dx3...the nomadio comes with some really kewl features.......
just to set some facts straight.....amf66, just so you know the himoto rxb-1 does not come with a sh.28...it comes with a sh.21....you cannot do the 6 port mod to the sh.21...dawman, we done had this discussion...you cannot group the rxb-1 with the torpeda....they are totally diff buggies I should know I own both...I understand you have your opinions on himoto and not saying that your not allowed....I have my opinions on all mfg's....yeah some people may have came to you for parts for a rxb-1, but that doesnt mean you drove it...and the little I know about you, I am sure if himoto built the ultamate buggy you would call it a POS cause thats just you...
It's a fact that most people would have to order himoto parts online....on the same hand, just because a lhs carries say traxxas parts does not mean that lhs will always have the parts you need and will have to order them...I've seen this first hand with a couple friends be it owners of losi, traxxas, cen, and ofna...

Whatever . If you actually read my post you would see that not only did I have customers with them but also owned one . You have one thing correct , you don`t know me . So how in the hell can you tell what I`m going to think about an "ultimate buggy " by them ? Which I doubt they will or even can .

I'm just saying I dont expect anything less from you....I did read your post...if you owned a 1/8th scale himoto buggy 2 yrs ago it would of had to been a torpeda...This is why I said you cannot group the rxb-1 with the torpeda...And like I stated they are completely different buggies...as far as himoto building the ultamate buggy I doubt that happens, reason being is I doubt any mfg can build "The Ultamate" buggy, I was just saying no matter how good a future himoto buggy is you will say its a POS...

There is a short video I made....Was for a contest and could only be 2 min. long....The last part was jumping a sand hill..you can see me on top of the hill for size reference, by the way im 6ft tall....I jumped my "Cheap Chinese POS" rxb-1 of that hill over a dozen times.. I beat the crap out of it for over 30 min. and the only parts I broke was one tooth of the rear pinion and center diff planetaries were worn...I'm thinking this was due to landing on the throttle a few times...I couldnt see the buggy landing..ya might wanna watch it in high quality cause my camera isnt the best...lol

Got the ofna all broken in so I took it out for a quick thrashing tonight. First hit a large open paved lot and just ripped around. The high speed needle is at 3.5 turns out and it screams. I didn't bother leaning it out any more yet, it's more than fast enough for me right now as it is and is blowing a nice smoke trail. The engine was actually cooler ripping around the parking lot than it was breaking in on the bench, I suppose from the air flow.
So I got bored there after 2 tanks and went looking for a dirt lot to rip up. Found one, and let me tell you, granted this is my first 8th scale, but I have never had a car handle this well. Throws beautiful 4 wheel rooster tails, and it absolutely flies in the dirt. The handling is superb, just power through the corners and it does a perfect controlled drift, all the while blasting a big rooster tail. Made me look like a pro. There is a local track that charges $5 a day to practice, I'll probably go out Sunday and try it out there.
Here's some pics. Oh by the way I picked up the Firehammer on craigslist for $250 earlier this week. Runs perfect, though I melted the steering servo a couple days ago so waiting on a new one. I also think it's actually an XTM grizzly and not a duratrax due to the stamping on the radio tray. Anyway, here's the pics.

Well, it's confession time.
I was having a hell of a time tuning the low end on my new Hyper. It would either run rich and then die, or run lean, but then load up at idle and die. Under power it was fine.
I was scratching my head and looking through the manual when it hit me.......
The shiny brass screw I was tweaking for the low end was the damn MIDRANGE screw. Having used glow for over 10 years now somehow I saw that inviting brass screw next to the high end needle and just assumed it was the low end mixture, even though the other 100 engines I've owned in the past have had the low end mix on the opposite side of the carb.
DUH.
After resetting the midrange and leaning out the low end a but, it runs remarkably better....
I felt pretty damn dumb. This is the first engine I have ever had with three mixture screws, so live and learn.
