Good 1/8 buggies for $300?
Hi all,
What are some good choices for a 1/8 offroad buggy for around $300.00 US? I used to have a Kyosho Mint Baja years ago and would like to get back in to R/C racing.
Any info helpful,
-Freak

there are many buggies suck as the ofna/picco buggy, and the hyper 7. both are great for the money. look at [link=http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_info.php/cPath/1_44_50/products_id/17280/n/Thunder-Tiger-ST-1-4WD-RTR-1-8th-Stadium-Truck-Purple-Silver-No-Glow-Ignitor-Fuel-Bottle]this[/link] car. it is a very strong truggy. mt/buggy hybrid, wins races like a buggy, but bashes like a mt.

Wel you could go either the new or used route.
Used Cars to look at: Mugen MBX5, Jammin X1, Hyper 7, Team Losi 8ight 1.0
New Cars. Ofna Picco buggy, Hyper 7 tq black,
Id say go the used route as some of those cars are very good performers.

you can actually find the Hyper 7 TQ RTR new on ebay for around 300... very solid buggy with alot of upgrade options available to make it very competitive... I Love my Hyper 7 takes a licking and still keeps going... you can find good deals on them used too as low as 1-200 buck for everything and extras...
if you are going used though I would also check out the mugen, Losi 8ight 1.0, or one of the other brands, new Definately go for the Hyper 7.

The new CEN Matrix R2 RTR goes for around $250-$300. It's a good buggy to take a look at. If you would want something better suited for racing, the R2 FRE will be coming out shortly, and you can pre-order now for a discounted price! PM me for more info.
If you don't want to buy new, a used buggy would save you money. You can find nearly anything on ebay for a good price.

I would but a used buggy with new motor and what ever is needed to get it going like radio, servos etc... That might cost you a little more but you'll end up with a nicer buggy in the long run.

Yep, Caster is trying to get more RTR marketshare so they have lowered the price. It is funny because they sell pro kits 10 to 1 to the rtrs, which is backwards for industry standards. I guess that proves how many racers are starting to take notice of the car. The new rtrs come with a new radio and new go 3 port motor. They also have the Mugen drivetrain and gearing now.

Thanks for the replies. What's the difference between the .21 and .28 engine... other than the bore size of course. Both legal in the same racing class or they for different classes?

.21 is a slightly smaller bore than a .28, a ..21 is going to be faster all around, where as a .28, has a little more grunt to it... the guy to ask about engines round here is supertib...

I have the hyper 7 with an axial .28 spec 1s mounted in it. And I tell you, you won't find a more durable buggy. Yes, I have several upgrades on it, such as carbon fiber upper plate, and aluminum throughout, but still, I have beaten the ever living crap out of it for several months now, and ( knock on wood ) I haven't broken one single part on the whole buggy.....seriously..... I would put my hyper against any of the more expensive brand buggys out there, and I would be more than confident that it will out bash all of them.....

I have the Hyper 7 PCR Pro edition with the Hyper .21 turbo, and have all the carbon, and aluminum upgrades. the only weak spot I have found is the rear wing brace and shock tower bolts can strip out of the rear diff case uprights they secure to, easy 10 minute 2 dollar fix if you drill the 4 holes through and use lock nuts to hold the brace boilts in place there is not a whole lot you can do to damage this thing. I had mine lose the throttle servo and hit a curb head on at half throttle, and the only damage was bent shock shafts.
the Hyper 7 IMO is a great all around buggy, and can race or bash and hold it's own... great buy for 300 new...

I would try to find a good used losi 1.0, rc8, d8, or jammin x1cr. put money into good motor/pipe and servos. might be a little more than 300, but in the long run, you'll want better
servos/radio etc anyways

Is $300 your total budget or just for the buggy? You will need more for other things you will have to have. $300 is not much to be competitive in racing. A good racing rig will set you back at least $1000 to $1500.
