hi (again) bet you are sick of me by now. I have a nice new problem.
Havin a little go with my car this morning, went perfectly head on into a curb (not overly fast and the wheels didnt totch the curb was just the bumper). now the steering is screwed. it seems really laggy as if its taking ages for the signal to get to the steering servo or the servo is going slow its hard 2 describe. i hope i havnt screwed it.

Those stock servos that come with that car are...well...not good.
It sounds like you may have broken some of the gear teeth off.
Take the servo out and open it up, slowly and gently so nothing comes falling out and have a look inside.
If the gears are shredded off, you can buy rebuild kits at your LHS or just upgrade to a better servo with metal gears.
Good luck.

that does sound like it could be the problem. what would you recomend i replace it with? a metal toothed one does sound preferable.

Depends on your budget really. I presuming that it's a bit tight right now as you've sunk everything you've saved into getting your XTM, so: HRC32645S Hitec HS-645MG High Torque Metal Gear Servo S/JR/Z $35.99
I've heard plent of good things about this one, but I haven't personally used it.

In the XTM, I believe the two servos are the same stock. I never really paid attention to them. They were the first thing I threw out of the bug
Your steering servo needs to have a good wheight and speed rating.
Your throttle/brake servo needs to be fast, but not quite as strong as the steering servo.

If you're trying to save money, go ahead and switch the servos around and see what happens. If the problem occurs on the throttle/brake you know it's the servo.
Honestly though, I personally feel those servos are right there on the bottom of the quality list. Using a cheap servo is how the company can offer you a RTR for such a good price.
Even the servos in a RTR Losi aren't that good. It's always one of the first thing everyone seems to replace....at least that's what I've read here.
You really do get what you pay for when it comes to servos.
BTW....Water and electrics don't mix unless it's been water proofed.
Good luck and let us know what happens after the switch.

i wasnt arguing that they were good i just thought from your initial post that the servo i have had plastic gears.
i think i have messed up the servo its all i can think it would be i had it all apart no teeth missing but i think i must of damaged the motor in there.
when i had the servo off i turned it on and was still having the same problem with it.

I know you weren't argueing that they were good, sorry if my response came off like that.
Hmmm...sounds to me like you're going to need to replace it mate.

yeah i think i am gunna. just need to wait until i have enough money i know its only 30 quid but am soooo skint.
clearly i am going to have to replace it but cant work out what the actual problem with it is, all the teeth look intact. i think i must have damaged the motor in there thats all it can be.

I think you may be correct mate.
Try switching the two servos and see if the same problem occurs...but obviously it would now occur on the 'throttle' servo once switched.
BTW.....I've unfortunately fried (i.e. let the smoke out) of $120 servos...[:@]
Welcome to the addiction mate...
Good luck
