I have the Cradock anti-lock brakes and they work pretty well...supposed to be fuel resistant which is supposed to not fade ...with the Prospec tank not having a spill system, it may be needed.

Is there any problem running a pre-filter over the Mugen filter assembly? I'd like to slap one on but I was frightened it might restrict airflow or something. Any negatives to running a pre-filter? I've never seen anyone run one on one of the expensive engines so I've been nervious.

By the way, your buggy is looking flawless. I like how you did the pipe hanger also. What type of rod did you use?

RE: :: Official MBX5/Prospec Thread !!

No problems that I have encountered...the prefilter is not oiled. I am using the pre-filter off of the Motor-Saver for the Savage. Works great.

RE: :: Official MBX5/Prospec Thread !!

thats the motor saver filter and thats ALL i use. dont oil the pre filter like said. i put the phenolic brakes on that are for the xb8 $10 on ebay and you just have to dremmel the inside out a little. they work better than the craddocks ive used in the past. i noticed my servo horn was wrong by the pics. i put it on the other side. the pipe hanger come w/ the pipe. all it is is the round metal deals that go on your brake throttle arms that have the allen screw in them to hold it. works well and doesnt let it hit the mud guard.

have you guys used a universal boot on your drives? i saw a guy at the track that had some on his x5 and wondered if you use them to keep the dust out? seems like a smart idea. and what part #

just got home i placed 2nd w/ chads new setup for a bumpy track. i ran 5,5,5 in the diffs and loved it the pipe screamed mid high but calmed the low end down a bit and thats what i was looking for. the car felt great and it will take a while to get used to it. i didnt have to turn a bolt 1. no breakage at all. the car is a dream come true. im very glad i dumped the xb8:D

Sounds good, raining all weekend and Iam glad to hear the set up worked so well. I like the Mbx5 too and it makes me a better driver than I think I am. Glad to here the pipe works as well as it looks...keep em staring as you go by.

it was at a local indoor track and its clay med bite. i used 5,5,5 in the diffs. i love the 5,5,5 and it was easy to drive and if it got out of hand i would just bleep it and correct it. i see myself doing very good w/ the X5 this summer. and the next bod i do ill have to have the body clear where the pipe is.....lol i got 6 - 19sec laps and a bunch of 20sec ones in my first qual. average laps at that track are 22sec 21sec very few 18 sec laps and they are high 18's

How were your times compared to those with your XB8?

zzman 06-13-2005 07:11 AM

RE: :: Official MBX5/Prospec Thread !!

lower and not by much but they were. on this track i would struggle to get the 19 sec laps but,with the first outing w/ the X5 i had 6 of them in the first qual. a lot of them were LOW 19's. so im impressed and plan on doing great w/ it this yr. its not just the times its the durability. it doesnt flex soooooo much and i know the flywheel & spur wont crack or break on me or have the bell hit the chassis. the shocks are great the g-clip has a home in its groove unlike the xb8. all of these things were on my mind all the time. im at EASE knowing i have a great bug. it took me a month to find a good setup and get the xb8 dialed and i would still have to fight the conditions of the dirt so i kept tuning the xray. first time out w/ the MBX5 it felt dialed. now thats racing !!! it will let me be conmcerned with my driving and not worring about all the other bull.[>:]

take care the bush at the shock cap, don't let it turn around and against the cap, otherwise the cap will be worn out quickly before the bush should be replaced.

keep spare oil seal in your tool box, this can be damaged if hit hard but will not be as worst as XB8

i just replaced the fuel tank becoz the filter dropped off and found no way to put it back, it happened to my buddy's MX5 as well, the filter is threaded onto the tube, i wonder if it is caused by too much punch

the front lower arm is rarely broken even by hitting hard but just bent, i tried to get it back to shape by heating it up in baker and pressing on flat surface with weight until cool down, no problem and saved my some bucks:D

if you got a pro then pay attention on both the torque braces, the screw to chassis must be screwed tight, don't just rely on the stock nut, double nuts may be better

Your're right about the bushing and cap erosion, it's hard to believe that a plastic bushing will wear out and aluminum cap! But it's true! The only way to alleviate it is by replacing the bushing every 4-5 races to eliminate the play (Once there is play, the plastic bushing will erode the cap). There less then $5.00 http://www.carolinasrc.com/webstore/...p?idproduct=86

I just finished a full clean-up and I thought I'd snap a few shots before I head to the track tomorrow for some practice. What do you think of the new body? I've got some better shots of it but I'm having some trouble with my damn server.
