Well !........to-day's surf report....... the wind swung to Off-Shore (NW).....but..... the swell dropped off as well.....anyways .....as long as their is a wave.....their is a STOKE hidden within it 'somewhere'.....it was a classic afternoon spent on the beach with the family...I had a close call with one of the young lifesavers....a real Oooooops moment (very luckily not hurt).....Phew !
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EabSnSWr5JM 1' -1:12 reminds me of a classic down the line J=Bay wave........(scaled)

RE: Bro ********'s Custom Boards
Easter Monday morning session......totally sick of Chocolates.........Cemetry Beach...(2 minutes from home) ..some nice wave face..howling 30 knt. NW off-shore....if I can stay on it.....lets surf it...
The tide was low......wave quite far out....difficult to surf.......may try it again on the high tide this evening.....
This spot will be my WINTER surf spot - with the prevailing Winter NW off- shore and good ground swell.......I'm really looking forward to it !!!

RE: Bro ********'s Custom Boards
Something Different !.......I like 'different'
As much as I am loving surfing the Bro Shred'A' board ......I stumbled across this amazing design of surfboard " the Vanguard" by Daniel Thomson.
visit his link http://www.firewiresurfboards.com/su...ardid=vanguard very innovative chap and a hot surfer...... http://tomosurfboards.com/home.html
The different shape instantly grabbed my attention - the longer/straighter tail to nose rail line concept has a huge plus in the turns, presenting more rail into water line. As explained - one is able to realize the same rail length being in the water in the turns, as what perhaps a longer board would achieve.yet without the nose leverage..combined with good rocker, one will have great turning performance, as a bigger board - but be able to fit it into a tighter wave......sounds great !
I had to see what it would look like / go like as a ******** board........introducing the.... Bro....float'er
Kelly's take http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z1Z0OVyKEKI
The nose shape is also certainly SAFER !.........

Howzit rcSurf....glad you are enjoying the posts...!
The Bro'...float'er build is an exiting project......the theory of its rail shape makes goods sense to me..... combining it with the rc boards pod shape/position - rocker - and CG......is the challenge.

Hi Bro
Knew you would be workin on something else design wise... nice work pushin the boundaries... guess this project will be a twin fin and hey i'm gettin into the glassin and learning heaps good and bad... (here is a pic of my glassin cupboard draw i screw the board to..lol)
Anyway.... I was thinkin back to why i started commenting on the forums and one reason was when i saw your deflection barrier...
..atm on this first custom board i'm thinkin of an mj type deck but flat (so i can make many diff types maybe plywood perspex etc easily made on a flat surface) with my own design double seal between the bolts with the outer as the deflection barrier... and i've left enough room on the deck for wherever i go but keep thinkin how a solid barrier to deflect the force of the water is the ultimate seal helper.....
So just askin... but any chance you could share some thoughts and technique on how you fabricate/fit the brosurfer deflection barrier.
bc

HOWZIT BC........ You're on the move......its all looking good.....take another 'bite'....LOL
The flat lid is definitely the way to go !....coupled with the deflection rim. I cut my rim from High density foam - but you could use a piece of 4mm ply wood as well.
SUNRISE session this morning !....a little bit of everything !

RE: Bro ********'s Custom Boards
Fridays Surf report :
Never woke up to the am alarm to hit Long Beach this morning - BUT - False Bay 'Cemetery Beach' had a few good waves on offer. The Indian ocean wave is certainly 'slower' than the Atlantic ocean - but - still great for some STOKE rcSurfing.
The weather on the beach was just perfect......stunning views of the surrounding mountain ranges of False bay set in a Azure blue sky - with some of our local 'trek' ( pull) fishermen netting a catch......fun in the African Sun !
4:40' is a great Double Rodeo.... timing was spot on... The photographer in the video is Nic Bothma... http://www.nicbothma.com/ check out the 'surf' pics on his site of Dungeons and Sunset...some big stuff.

Howzit Kev....shot for pulling in...
I grew up surfing Cemetery most Winters 'never worrying about sharks' - now its a definite NO! NO!..wont even let the kids play in the shore-break....even when we Jet skied their in the late 90's, we had a few really close shaves.....
The nice thing about it is that we dont have to many surfers to contend with.....Come on Winter...
They say Sunday will be 3-4ft NW offshore......so I'm hoping for a pre- taste of Winter.....
Listen...you need to get that board 'finished'.....LOL......

RE: Bro ********'s Custom Boards
The 'float'er' is getting closer to getting wet........sanding coat curing !
I am going to use the running hardware - lid and Bro from my Shred'A' board to shorten the build process........ getting itchy !
Healthy Nose Rocker to launch over the bigger white water and to ride out the hollow !....helps plenty tight turning 'in the bowl'
Heading out for a Sunday afternoon rcSurf session......surf report looks 'promising'...........

RE: Bro ********'s Custom Boards
Saturday evening Surf Session !
Unfortunately the swell dropped right off.....but....the kids always love to have some fun on the beach in the evenings....and...so does Bro'....LOL
rcSurfing has to be the better rc option - it provides the most varied and available 'opportunity for use' and 'includes the entire family'....Win Win !
Even in really small surf the Shred'A" board can pull a few nice moves and rip a few great rides......always finding that STOKE !..... and sharing it with others.

Mondays Surf report !......
After 10 straight days of rcSurfing ...........I just could not go 'cold turkey'.......I had to head down to the beach for my 'fix' this evening...........
Their was still some decent swell left over from yesterdays low pressure push.....but......the tide was 'way out' low, causing the sand banks to be be very shallow. mostly closeouts- as well as it being far away, making it hard to see...but....we surfed it anyways !......always STOKED !
What an awesome evening! .....The folk on the beach just loved Bro's moves..especially his Rodeo's !....and...the sunset was absolutely spectacular !
......aaaaah..... now I feel so much better.....LOL

RE: Bro ********'s Custom Boards
Gave Bro a colorful 'Upgrade'
After surfing my Bro's for well over 100 hours now, in various surf conditions, without breaking them, the 'one issue' I did find to be a problem was the color of the 'rash vest'.
Even though Bro stands 330 mm (13") high with a reasonably wide stance of 230 mm on the board, whenever surfing in the 'greener color' water, Lisa- Marie and I often lose sight of Bro.
So - Lisa-Marie - decided that Bro needed a more colorful rash vest !.....
WOW !...we shouldn't lose sight of him now ! might even see him 'inside' the barrels.....LOL

float'er update
Just need to install the drive shaft and steering linkage tube then transfer the electrics from my Shred'A" board ( I am planning a morning surf session to-morrow with the Shred'A').......so the float'er should be wet midweek !

Howzit Guys !......trust you all had a great weekend and got your boards wet !
We had to travel 80km's up the West Coast to-day for a family lunch visit- so ! - I 'dragged' Bro along to break the journey....LOL
The swell on the Atlantic was off the boil - but - we managed to have some fun never the less......always a STOKE in it somewhere.
It continues to amaze me just how much the folk love watching Bro surf. He almost has celebratory status on the beach ! LOL
The 'orange' rash vest proved to be a big improvement of his visual impact in the surf. Lisa-Marie reckons it was far easier to track him on her screen.
One of the aspects of the Shred'A" board, which I have come to enjoy, is its versatility in various surf. I cant say that I have found any surf to date. in which I have not enjoyed surfing it......
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hZkuPzuR6L4 Next video's should be of the float'er in action........exited to see that one in action !

RE: Bro ********'s Custom Boards
.....LOL....sorry !....the next video just happens to be 'on the Shred"A" ......
I got the drive shaft - steering push rod and pod weight installed into the float'er board to-day- but did not get the electrics transfered - I could hear the surf calling late this afternoon......- so ! - off to the beach we went !
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n6A5zRB6zek The 1:50" - 2:00" ride shows a nice display of the Shred'A' board surfing 'rail to rail' (leaning) as I carve the turns on the wave face.
You can see how the board 'rolls over the pod' as it transits from rial to rail. If your pod is to small to 'lift' the weight of the board at speed, the board will ride on the flat surface of the boards hull and present a very flat two dimensional ride, steering more around its center line turning point, rather than the boards rails
