Hi Guys

I have been meaning to join this great bunch for some time now - but needed to get 'My Board build underway'
Hopefully soon - we will be posting some great RC Surfer rides from SUNNY SOUTH AFRICA !
I have a few post orders if this prototype works - we will mold the board for =reproduction if all goes as planned.

I will drop a few more pics once the hardware is fitted !

Very cool! Welcome aboard Domic!

Checked your tunnel boat out also, looks fast!

Wondering if you are near Voyage Yachts, a sail catamaran builder in SA, I know a few guys from there.

Looking forward to more pics and also hear how the testing goes!

Hi

Length 600 mm (2ft) width 160 mm - very lean - The motor fits half into the lower pod to ensure a very low CG to improve righting process.

What is the size of the Kyosho rc surfer ?

I have been giving the RC Rider some serious thought. Reading through the posts it is clear that the rc rider takes a hammering from the surf. mass producing a 3D rider of foam and glass will not be cost effective and I dint believe all that strong to be light.

What I plan to do is Laser cut a silhouette of a surfer (Front/back) of 20 mm laminated neoprene. Perhaps screen print it either side.
It will work very well as part of the righting process - be more streamlined when punching through the white water - and take a serious punch.

It wont look as COOL as the Dude - however it will be functional and look the part from the beach.

Hi Nigel

What are you 'surfing' at the moment.

We are hoping to have our new 'rc board' available in the near future ( 3 months)
Still need to conduct riding tests and build production molds.

Our objective is to build a' rc board' that is up to withstanding the challenge of the oceans harsh conditions, as well as being able to "SHRED' like the hottest surfer. Aptly named YPC = Shredder !

having been manufacturing in the rc racing boat world for a good number of years I know what is expected of a product that needs to perform and satisfy expectations.
I have no doubt that this sport will go well in SA- we are 5 minutes from the famous Muizenberg Beach in Cape Town - where all the surfers ( young and old) cut their teeth - learning to surf.

a few outings in the midst of them all - and I have no doubt there will be a good few sold !!!!

Will keep our progress posted

Hey Guys
I just rediscovered my never used board shark in my garage that I bought about 3 years ago.

Is it worth it to try to modify this one?

From scanning this thread would would this be a good set up?
HobbyWing Seaking-120A Brushless ESC for Boat
HobbyWing 3660 SL 3060kv Brushless Inrunner (WaterCooled)

Running a 3 cell lipo

Thanks Guys

Note to all builders-  I used some aluminum tubing instead of brass for cooling pickups,  and found it to be a bad idea. Salt water eat up the aluminum in about 6 mo. to the point it leaked.  I just replaced it with brass.

Roger that, the Sea reclaims everything eventually, it is a very good idea to flush out the cooling lines after each session as well, many components in the motor and ESC cooling water contact items are also Aluminum.

I have also been pulling and re-greasing the prop shaft often, checking the seals and storing the RC Surfer so the seals cannot take a set.

Maui John: whats your take on the best central location for the Bro Down.
I'm getting people asking for the location.
It's been a long time since I was in that area, but doesn't seem like there is
a lot of distance from T street to 204's. Thats the boundry area I have been letting people know.

BB: I contacted Ed from Rc surfrider, and he may be able to make it down as swell.

Sail Dog: Been looking into Rooms, There seems to be a lot near the pier.

Cheers Dominic, I'm currently sufring mainly the 6'6" and my mini mal, we're in the summer patterns here....haha
Not quite what you were meaning i think. I don't have an rc surfer, which is kind of funny realy as i surf and i've got just about everthing else in rc, must have missed this somehow up till now i guess?
So starting fresh, have plenty of rc stock availible, so board/deck figure etc i could get away with but would prefer something stock/complete as such that i could mod..etc.
It looks like all the mass produced versions seem to have been discontinued though, shame.
Cheers Nigel

Doc Curls has NQD boards complete as stock as well as all the goodies to hop them up, surprised he has not coined in here.
His listings are on eBay as well.

Sounds like a plan, that is the first place I ever ran my RC Surfer, it was BIG that day, was pretty stoked, ran awesome!

Have you scoped out a place to maybe have a few cold ones and some dinner for those that are staying the night?

I have to surf early on Sat then bail to crew on a yacht race, returning late afternoon....wanna get another session in Sunday morning if possible....

Where's Curly? Gotta get some plans in place!!!

Cool Maui John,

Lets go for that. The pier has some good motel spots
and is a central location. I'm Sure I can hike to 204's from the pier
or drive if needed.

JRA: I did a mod for a shark a bit ago
here is some pics to sea.

204 is just south of North Beach. If that makes sence. North beach is where PCH leaves the beach and you start to get into San Clemente proper or town. There is a train station (not the one next to the pier).
Located along Buena Vista and Avenida Aragon. From the 5 exit Pico West. Turn left onto El Camino Real (PCH) go 1 and 1/4 miles and turn right onto Avenida Aragon. Park in is free on the residential streets. Take the stairs down to the beach.

You will need a flex cable from Offshore Electrics.

I recall it was a .130 size on that board
