Default solid axle onroad project...

I have seen some done before...onroad cars looking very scale with a solid rear axle, usually an ax10 or scx10 axle.

I have wanted to do my own, but just the axles alone arent cheap.

But i just bought a wheely king axle set...with center trans for $36 shipped.

I have lots of thoughts running threw my head tho....

I could make a scalers, homemade scale chassis similar to the scx10's. Custom links are easy to make. The front axle would need a servo over axle plate.

Or i could make a solid axle onroad as mentioned before. The beauty of that idea is to start with a hard plastic "toy" body and build the chassis to suit the body.

One of the axles im getting is locked, and the other unlocked.

Not sure how fun an onroad car with a locked rear axle would be.

so, should i build up a scale crawler, or a scale onroad with center trans/motor and solid axles?

If you come across any pics of simillar onroad projects, please post some pics for me!

I'm not one for crawlers, but scalers are cool to look at and I'd really like to do something like one of these one day.

another thought....

I could do a FOFF build. Seem some really nice ones, as well as some cool vids of them.

Would be simillar to a scale crawler build, but I think i would setup the suspension and links differently.

The wheely king tranny is a bit bulky, but i think i could make it work.

yep, saw them in RCU marketplace and snatched them up!

I think im leaning toward a FOFF build now. Custom chassis and some paddle tires...maybe a mild brushless system.

I would advise against locked rear end for on road. Most vehicles that are made to turn do not use locked front or rear diffs, or centers if available, as the wheels need to rotate at different speeds through a turn, which is the point behind a "limited slip" or otherwise not locked axle set up. Locked will take away from turning, but give you a bit more oomph in straight lines.

that was my thinking as well. not sure if that axle can be unlocked or not.

Im thinking more of a FOFF rig...like these:
