Don't quite understand what you mean? Track racing is just racing. As far as tips all I can tell you is to find the groove and stay in it. What kind of car are you running? Buggy, monster? There are a lot of things to think about when you start racing, one of the best things you can do is find a track near you that races the type of car you have and go watch what is going on. Talk to the racers there, ask what kind of tires (sorry, tyres) they are running. Ask about setup on the car, shock oils, diff oils, gearing.... It is always a good idea to pick out a car that is running fast and watch the way it is driven. Also very important is to LISTEN to the car, the throttle is not an on/off switch. A major part of steering the car around a corner fast is throttle control.
Alot of tracks will also have a beginner program, we do, if it is your first time to race we will pair you up with one of the track "veterans" . He will show you how to get your car ready, check the heats to find out when you race, help you with pitting your car, show you how and when you have to corner marshall.... things like that. One thing you will never find a shortage of is advice at the track, everyone has their own ideas about everything and theirs is allways the best.
But most of all don't be shy, ask questions and talk to people. Once you start racing it becomes an addiction.
Good Luck

Nice tracks guys!!!
I am getting ready to head over to my dad's place where he has offered me a corner of his 1 acre garden to use as bashing grounds since the local parks districtthinks my 1/10 nitro will "rutt up" there precious BMX track. (that i helped build and maintain in my BMX racing days) but i digress.
I dont know how big of an area hell be giving my but i hope its the corner im thinking of which has a slight grade to it and again from my BMX days I already pulled every rock over 1/4" out of. My current idea is to flaten it our with his tractor till it up then run a roller over it for a nice smooth start. From there i was going to start with a layout that more resembles a skate or inline street course then a track per-say, but lay it out in such a way that I can hit in a few different layouts for racing, or just bash around it.
QUESTIONS:
I know I want a rythm section a double, triple and I'm goign to try a big step-up on the uphill run, but short of that what else would you throw in if it was your dream bashing grounds? I am kind of drawing a blank and have not seen any off road tracks in person yet just pics online.
Also he's got a tractor and a roller and the dirt is clean and packs nicely but its very dusty/light soil (he's been gardening on the land for 20 years) and i know its really tuff to build berms or jumps with the stuff. I'm thinking about mabey when i till it adding something to it to help it hold together, but what would i add to do this? i was already gonna throw in some of his vermiculite to help it dry out quicker when it rains. i know DG packs and drains well but i also have learned that its about the worst thing for traction. Any ideas???
again thanks for the advice in advance.
ill take some pics of the lot and mabey photoshop in some of my ideas to post up when i get over there.

since i got my brushless system, my current track is way too small(see vid i posted earlier). i am going to completely re-do the entire track. the area i currently use is about 80'x40' but i am going to extend over behind my neighbors house which will double the size

i want to make a mini-z track preferably portable,
i'm not a hundred percent sure on where to start though.
i was thnking about getting some of those foam jigsaw interlocking pieces of ebay for the base because then they can be taken apart and easily stored under my bed or something.im not qite sure how to make the barriers for the outside or what to use for them.
what sort of size would any of you recomend bear in mind i havent got a great deal of garden space to set it up on.
and i dont want it to be a permanent fixture.
cheers jamie.

Hey castlebravo-racer, I just watched a video from an earlier post of your track, nice job. Do you recall how much dirt you had to haul in and how many linear feet of pipe you had to use? It looks like a pretty fair sized track and I was wondering how much raw materials I would need to make a track of comparable size. I've been lucky enough to be given lengths of both 4" and 6" drain pipe. Which would you use where? ie-straights or corners or jumps, etc.

There was no dirt hauled in at all, this is kinda the way it was done.
1. Boxblade used to scrape off the top 1" to 2"
2. Ground ripped to about 4" deep and then all of the loose soil scraped off.
The fist two inches of dirt was taken to the back of the property as it was full of seeds and weeds. The first 4" of topsoil that we scraped off was piled up on one side of the track. This is our reserve of dirt, The dirt is also "rotated" with every track rebuild. Meaning that the dirt we used for the current track will not be used for the next track. The dirt gets used for every other track rebuild if you get what I mean.
We buy the drainage pipe in the large rolls. I think they are 200? maybe 300? foot long. I think we started with about 6 or 9 of these rolls. Our current track does not use all of the pipe so we always have some spare lying around. The roll cost about $30.00 or $40.00 dollars apiece.
4" pipe i would use in the straights, if a car hits it, it will usally glance off it.
6" I would use in the corner, less chance of the car jumping the pipe.
If anybody would like to see the track in person, we are having our biggest race of the year on the 21st of April. We are expecting at least 100 cars for a one day race. So if your close to eastern Oklahoma that day stop by and see us. Our flyer is posted on this fourn some where.

I'm planning on building a track in my backyard tomorrow. The room my dad will let me use gives me enough for 4 wide lanes beside each other about 40m long. Does anyone have any ideas for a layout and construction techniques? My friends and I usually bash and have 1/10th and 1/18th mostly basher vehicles. Will I need anything but time, wheelbarrow, shovel, drainage tile, and skidsteer?
Edit: This is my plan, any suggestions or altercations are welcome.
