Default Considering a radar gun..

Anyone have any suggestions? I dont know jack about them, and the prices seem to range from $15 to $1500. This is mainly for 1/5 scale cars, but if I could get one that can detect smaller cars that would be great as well. Don't really want to spend more than $100 if I can avoid it.

Also, if there are any other forms of speed measurements I should consider im all ears

Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't waste your money on one from the toy store. My brother has one of those hot wheels radar guns and although it does work for slower vehicles it couldn't pick up my 1/6 scale buggy. I believe the problem is with the distance that it works in and the time it takes to register the speed. It only picks up the vehicle when it gets within 5-10 feet. For that split second that it's within range the radar gun just doesn't have time to pick it up. You'd need something that can read speed from a longer distance.

I've looked around and haven't found any radar guns worth buying for less than a few hundred dollars. There is one out there (forgot the brand name) that is roughly $100 but from the reviews I've read it works fine for a little while then starts to get very inaccurate.

You'd probably be better off buying one of those venom speedometer things.

i have a hot wheels radar gun only paid 10 dollars for it. I guess it works alright. I have only used it a couple of times and i was not really using someone eles was while i drove my jato. We did get it to read 60 mph for my jato. Also i think one of the spektrum radios have a aviable speed sensor on the controller for only 20 for the sensor. But the radio is like 300 or something.

How about a [link=http://www.amazon.com/Garmin-eTrex-Handheld-GPS-Navigator/dp/B00003WGP5]GPS System[/link]?

$91.76 and it can do much more that just measure speed [8D]

I dont know if you have Dick's Sporting Goods stores out in cali but a friend and I bought one to radar his bass boat. I think he paid $69 for it, it has long range, and is spot on with the speedometers on two different cars. We got in a Mustang GT and the radar gun could read up to 105, we didn't go any faster so...Anyway, we would shoot it towards the bank as we approached a turn to read the speed and it agreed with the GPS unit we had as far as speed was within .5MPH

I would also recommend the bushnell radar gun. I have one and have had no problems with it and it seems to work pretty good.

Here's a few options that any large scale is worthy of:

Get the data recorder and expand later if you want.

Ya the hotwheels one works pretty good concidering I got it for $20 on clearance. You have to get really close to get it to work right though otherwise it always reads 3mph.
