Good info on EBAY Todd.... I was looking at same item during that time and noticed the price jumped way high and decided not to bid. I was watching the auction during its entire course. I just figured the closing price was getting close for you can buy a new one for so the heck with it. I think his feedback wasn't that good anyways. I only buy from people with good feedback and high feedback counts. I've been lucky that I havn't been scammed by EBAY but you're right, its out there.
I hope you'll try EBAY again some day...it's a good place to bargain shop. I'm still waiting on those guys who can get Fioroni.

todd shill bidding is like what you described but a little different too.
person a lists an item
person b is his 2ndpc/friend
the point of shill bidding is to raise the price being paid WITH OUT winning the auction.
you said that guy out bid you for $105 did the seller relist it cause person b(himself) won it or did someone actually out bid you in the last second?
as i told you in a pm i got busted for it so i know a little about it
shill bidding was done in first month cause i didnt think there was anything wrong with it until i got suspended and they told me what it was.
except i was dumb and would bid to my high bidders price and then cancel my own bids and then rebid them up to $.50 less than his......he put a proxy bid of $50 i would bid my own auction up to $49
never use proxy bid unless your willing to pay exactly what your maximum bid is.
if you will pay $10 for somethign put $10 but dont complain when you do pay $10.
i say if its such a good auction and its such a must have item, be around for the auctions end. most GOOD items get bids on them and the starting price means nothing.
a low $.99 price gets more people involved in the auction.
ive used ebay for 2+ years and you all must realize its no longer the secret to low prices it once was. everyone and their grandma are selling and buying.
hell there aint no better price guide to any item in the world than ebay. you name it its on there.
but its become so much of a wholesale/retail type thing the good "on-line yardsale" days are over.
ebay is great for price checking, selling, and browsing, but i think the good ole days are gone.

your right its not what it use to be for deals...However the Sniperwatch i use works great if your not going to be around for an auction's end!
I have yet to lose one from being out bid at the last minute...
The way it works:
Put in your maximum sniperbid....Fair price to you! As long is that price is lower than your maximum fair price bid at the last 30 to 60 seconds the Sniper bids the auction...Presto you win!
This is providing people have not bid all week long and drove the price past your maximum Sniper...Course if that happened you just go to your local hobbyshop and buy it cheaper than what the winner got it for...LOL
The Sniper is the way of the future, Makes sure you get that last minute bid in and stil;l get it for a price your happy with!
If you haven't seen that exact item relisted within 3 days I would tend to say that you were out bid! Try the sniperwatch company and this will solve your problem with being away from the computer at auction's end!
Goodluck

Thanks Packfan for the info. It does seem like alot of used items are knocking on what you would pay new at Ebay. And new items like you said......get retail. I don't know if its the fun of a auction, or the bidder who refuses to lose at all costs, including paying over retail, but I have yet to feel like I got a down right bargain on anything.....Always am hoping and trying.....but eventually at some point during a auction the illusion that I am getting a great deal fades.....and I end up at whatever retail outlet that carries the item that I wanted new. Nothing wrong with a warranty, and the fact if something is wrong with the item- you can return it. I missed the good old days....Heck I just bought a computer less than a year ago!

People i know and at work consider me the ebay expert evn chaging my name from etahn to ebay.
1. Never bid your max pric ethe first day unless it is to remove a buy it now then bid the minimum bid that's it.
2. If you can't be around for the end of the auction or tend to forget use auction stealer it's free for 10 auctions a month and bids in the last 10 seconds. but you can lose if your bid wasn't high enough.
3. Check out buy it nows the first day there posted every once in a while some amature will list something way under value with a buy it now. (I bought 10 brand new factory sealed reedy 3000 matched nimh's for 120 this way)
4. look for typo's I saw a victory charger with zapper sell for 110.00 ( actual product victor 3000 charger with zapper normally sell on the boards for over 200.00) I bought a tl3 rtr for 59.00( actual product team tc3 rtr)
I have over a 100+ feedbacks and do both buying and selling
