My neighbors have built an RC track. I have discovered that my wife will let me get away with murder (and expensive toys) as long as I take the kids along. I'm looking at the DuraTrax Evader, the one towerhobbies sells for 119 bucks, anyone have any experience with one? Any other suggestions? Are parts hard to find? Hobby People is having a sale on their 150 dollar XTM, I can't remember it's name right now, and the website is down, anyone know anything about that?
It might not look like it here, but I very much support my lhs, he gets LOTS of my money. Not as much as my wife though. To bad really...

I would buy an evader if my local hobby shop had parts for it...
Honstly, your best bet to to see what your local hobby shop has parts for, and buy that. Generaly your hobby shop is about as cheap as buying it online if its a decent hobby shop, and lots of shops will give you a better deal if you let them know you can get it cheaper online... dont expect them to match it exactly, but if you are like me, you dont mind paying a little extra (no more than $20) to get it NOW and also support your lhs)
All of the shops near me stock traxxas parts, but only 1 that i have found stocks duratrax parts... Maybe look into a rustler if they dont have druatrax parts... It will be faster than the evader...
another truck worth looking at, is the traxxas slash... great truck and fun, especialy if you are racing with other slash's...

If you are going to get an evader, I would recommend getting the ST truck. The duratrax cars are very fragile in comparison to other name brands, but the truck body protectrs the shock towers so you are less likely to break stuff. I went through 4 front shock towers in a month on an ebader BX buggy I had. You would be better off finding a used RC-10 B4 or something like that. I just got the new HPI Brama 10B, it is an inexpensive 4WD buggy ($160 shipped at tower with the $20 discount right now). You need to swap the motor out in it for a 21 turn (The lowest it's ESC can handle), but other than that, it is pretty good right out of the box, and even comes with a battery and charger. I personally will never buy duratrax cars again.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll check out the Traxxas, my boyz are twins so when I see 160 instead of 120 I see an 80 dollar difference. I do want to be able to buy parts locally. Thanks for the suggestions, any other please throw them my way.

I'm in the same boat as you are, except I have two girls so I have to buy THREE of everything, and it all has to be the same so no one has and advantage. I also recommend Traxxas, mainly because of the easy availablity of parts from my LHS. I bought my Rustlers used off eBay to save money and I try to do the same with upgrade parts, but as you will find out with kids, you'll need a reliable and quick source of replacement parts to limit down time, which keeps everyone happy.
A lot of people recommend the Slash, but I'd go with a Rustler XL-5, mainly because it's about $40 cheaper ($80 for you), and the Rustler is supposedly a better all around vehicle than the Slash. Anthoer benefit of the Rustler XL-5 is that the new models are waterproof/water resistant, which will allow you to run in damp or wet conditions.
I'm sure the Duratrax is a great car, but from what I've seen, Traxxas is a more "universal" car, whether some consider it good or bad; they even sell their stuff at PepBoys.

The evader ext is a very durable car I own three cars and it is my favorite. you do need a new pair of tires though they kind of suck. and be carefull when adjusting the slipper clutch. its an awsome car.

The new evader ext is very tough. I would get that, the truck version. Remember you will also need to buy batteries and a charger. Buy a "peak" charger, that automatically shuts off when the battery is full, something like the Dynamite Prophet series for less than $50 is a good choice.
