Hey guys.

So im looking at a new car but ive got a few questions as im not exactly sure what im really after, although i know i want electric.
Ive currently got a rustler xl-5 which i love, and will be holding onto, but im but i find it a little lacking at times and with all the new traxxas models being waterproof im sold on one, its just which one?

90% of what i use the cars for is BMX tracks and other offroad stuff. Theres alot of mountain biking where i live so there are alot of nice bits of track with jumps and obsticals which is where 4wd is definatly going to make a difference and being in New Zealand, it can be quite wet at times so waterproofing has me sold.

Id like a bit more speed, top end and deffinatly off the mark.

Ive thought about putting a brushless setup in the rustler, but with the rwd it can be hard enough as is off road and its still not waterproof.

So i reckon im inbetween an E-Maxx and one of the new 1/16 E-Revo VXLs once they're out.

The revo appeals with the brushless setup, and pretty much the whole car really, my worries are about it being too small for real offroad use, and it being too hard to drive in almost the opposite way to the rustler. Having said that, id love to be able to wheelie? haha
I know i guy with a 1/10 e-revo vxl and he's always crashing the thing cos its too quick, which surly with a 1/16 is going to be even harder to control?

Then theres the e-maxx. ok so i know its going to be better offroad simply for being bigger.
Loving the high torque of the twin motors, but i can just see that halving my run time?
Run times one of my main priorities.
Am i better off with a brushless setup? Arent brushless motors better in general now days? so is there any poing buying a brushed car?

Biggest question i guess is, will the e-maxx take li-po batteries as it is stock? Will they improve the performance of the brushed motors? or will it be bad for them?
And will they work in a rustler xl-5 or will the esc not take them? cos would be handy if i could use them in both cars.

I know the e-max will be quicker off the mark being 4wd and twin motored, but will its top end speed be much quicker?

Im pretty sure the e-maxx is for me, provided its got the power to wheelie and is at least a little quicker than a stock rustler XL-5.
im just worried im taking a backward step by getting a car with brushed motors. Especially if it wont take li-po batteries.

Oh and im not looking to upgrade the e-maxx to brushless at all, too expensive all up for me, which is why the 1/16 revo is the other option.

Any input, opionions or answers would be awesome!

It's tough to help you because no one really has any experience with the 1/16 E-Revo yet. I think you're right in thinking that, "...my worries are about it being too small for real offroad use." It's size will hamper it in these conditions compared to 1/10th size. However, I am firmly of the belief that brushless is the only way to go these days.

The E-maxx is a really outdated and platform, frankly I never found it great to begin with either. It should be put out of its misery. The Revo platform on the other hand, is really good, and I have no doubts that the smaller sized one will be just as good.

I think im swaying towards the revo the more i look into this, but im still not sure.

The battery size in the 1/16 revo worries me. even with li-po's you're not going to get much more than 1600mah per battery. dont suppose anyone has any idea on the run times of these things yet?

But having said that, the Maxx is running two motors which is obviously going to draw more power, but the battery compartments are way bigger so i should be able to throw in some rather large li-po's, provided the stock e-maxx will take li-pos? i guess thats the big question as im definatly wanting to go li-po.
Any E-Maxx users out there? what are you run times like?

You're not considering the best of both worlds? Why not a full-sized Revo?

I like the part of the post about your friend crashing because his Revo is "too quick." Explain the trigger and finger properties of his transmitter to him. Maybe that will help.
