servo interference

i have a 1/8th scale hbx vrx-2 buggy. have been having servo interference for some while now. the car is off. i turn the transmitter and the receiver on. and there is hardly any signal being picked up, the steering is locked in right position and the steerinf doesnt respond to the transmitter. but when i use the throttle the steering picks up a little signal and wobbles but the throttle hardly works.
can anyone help me?

Doesn't sound like interference. Sounds like faulty electronics. A faulty receiver, probably from getting wet, or faulty servos, possibly due to a crash.
First thing to do is find out which item is causing the problem. Easiest way is by substituting known electronics, one at a time. If spare stuff isn't avialable, you can at least try swapping your servos around....so throttle controls steering and vice versa. See what happens? If your steering now works, you know the previous steering servo is bad.
Also try one servo connected to the receiver at a time. A binding servo can cause the battery volage to drop and it seems neither servo responds.
Servos and recievers can be dismantled. Look for green corrosion on circuit boards and clean it off. Look for broken wires, especially broken servo leads.
Although not as common, intermittent items, such as battery holders and ON/OFF switches can cause weird things to happen, so check them out as well. One easy way to eliminate the ON/OFF switch, is to wire the battery directly to the reciever and see if there's an improvement.
There's many other things that could be wrong. You will have to do what troubleshooting you can and if still no-go, come back and post whatever more info you have observed.

when the wierd stuff started happening i was out with my gramp in a big field and all of a sudden the reciever wassnt responding to the transmitter. i purchased a new reciever because the antenna souldering came loose.

When a crystal goes, you should not get any response, however there is one thing you can try before you plop down money. Crystals are similiar to a lightbulb inside. The crystal is connected inside to two wirres and is suspended inside the case....just like the filament in a lightbulb. They can sometimes breaks away if subjected to a shock. TV/VCR etc remotes often stop working due to a broken crystal if dropped on a hard floor.
What you do is remove the receiver form the vehicle, but don't disconnect any wiring. Turn on the TX and Rx and operate teh Tx controls while moving the Rx in different orientations. Sometimes if you hold it jsut the right way, the system will start working again as the crystal makes temporary contact. If this happens, you kknow for sure you need crystals. If it doesn't respond, you still may need crystals, but it's a bit of a test.
I'm a little cheap, and I'd try everyting I could to narrow down what's at fault before I spent any money. As this problem started while driving in a field, I'd look at the steering servo and crystals, (as you mentioned) first. Sometimes a steering servo can just get bound up and puts such a drain on the battery, the voltage drops and even the throttle servo won't work. So try disconnecting the electrical connector for the steering servo and see if the throttle servo starts working.

right first i swapped the servos and its still the same. then i connected the battery pack staright to the reciever and its still the same. then the batteries in the reciever were dead so i changed them and now the throttles okay but the steeringservo doesnt respond to nothing. it doesnt twith when i use the throttle or nothing?

i tried just plugging one in at a time and the throttle servos fine but the steering servo goes mad like glitches loads until i turn on the transmitter and then it stops and nothing responds. id say i got a mashed u servo. maybe wrong what do you think?

Take that steering servo and disconnect it and set it aside.
Now plug the throttle servo where the steering servo was plugged in. Operate the steering.....does the throttle servo work OK?
If so, that steering servo is your problem.
If not, then it's probably the receiver.

mate your a legend Ive found the problem. the 3 three wires going into the steering servo were pinched in the black case and they were hardly touching the circuit board.
what bits do i need to keep so that i can attach a new servo ??

Well, not sure what you mean by keeping bits. Most people would just buy a new servo.....comes with the wiring and plug already attached.
Now if it were me, I'd check that 3-conductor cable to make sure none of the individual wires are broken (open-circuit) and if OK, trim the ends and re-solder to the circuit board. If not OK, the cable is probably loing enough you can cut out the pinched part and then re-terminta the cable by soldering to the circuit board. Just make some notes so you can remember whihc wire goes where.
OH...."bits"....you mean the servo "horn" probably. Basically, you buy a new servo and don't throw anything out until the new servo is installed and working.

and i would solder them back on but my soldering iron has broke. its just stopped working.
ill buy a new servo. what one do you reccomend? what do you use?
