Default Need help charging

Hi there. Im REALnew at this. Anyway i just bought new batteries and a charger and i dont know how to set it up correctly. After about 20 minutes my charger gets a volt invalid error.
Im charging 3000Mah 30c batteries. 3 cell.
I have the charger set to 3 cell and 1 AMP. (the back of the battery says dont charge above 1 amp)

But like i said i keep getting errors and i dont know what to do. Ido have a small wall charger that is also balancing but it chargers thru the ESCwire and i hear that is bad.

Below is a ling to the battery.

Hi, welcome to RCU. The error is probably due to either output voltage (battery) or input voltage (power source)

Normally it will show up after just a few minutes telling there's a problem. Which specific charger are you using? How about a link to that.

Thanks for reply. Here is a link for the charger. It didnt come with a powercord so i am using a raido shack 12 volt. The imput on the charger says 11-18 volt.
Ikind of got the charger working. Ihad it set on .1 amp and charged for 200 minutes before the safty timer went off. But this is no where near where it is supposed to be.

Alright, it is probably an input voltage low error. You can go into the menu and reduce it to minimum (10 or 10.5) , but the real trouble may be the radioshack ps is not quite big enough. Would you happen to know the wattage or current of the ps? If it's around 12-20 watts then it is too small and the only way it will work is to keep the charge current down around .8 amps or so.

Uh, yep. 750 ma and 12 volts is about 9 watts. That will be your limit to charging.

Since your battery is a 3S (about 12 volts) then you should limit current to 700-800 ma.

The charger you have is 50 watts max, and sooner or later you might max it out so look for a ps around 50+ watts.

Cool thanks. i think i fryed my PS today anyway. Iturned the amps up to .8 and shortly after the charger shut off. I tryed the charger off my car batery and it still worked that way, so i kknow thats good.

What would you suggest i use for an AMPcharge with the 50 watt PS? Ialso dont know how to set the MA on the charger. The book is a bunch od dont's but never tells you how to actually do anything.

A power supply that can supply 12V 5A (that is 60 W) should be good enough to use.

When charging lipos The charger detects how much MA to put in so you don't have to set that on the charger.

In your first post you mentioned the battery says to not charge more than 1 A. I think you misread and it said 1C.
Which means that you can safely charge that lipo at 3A which will give you a charge time of about 1 Hour.

Also, that charger is rated for a maximum charge current of 5A.

If the batery says 1 amp max then that's probably what you should limit it to. Too bad the ps blew up you could've gotten away with .75-.8 amps. Oh well.

If I had to power a 50 watt charger I'd use a cheap/old/free/ pc power supply. Most of them deliver around 70-100 watts real easily and can be up in shape in about 30 minutes. Maybe you know someone who has one lying around unused. My pc guy has boxes of them and if you search you can find ouit how to wire/convert them to rc charger use.

Second choice (if it was me) would be a real cheap 50+ watt ready made ps that had an output voltage of 12-15

Yea, most people may not realise the specs call for a 12 v DC power source. Or they just use a car battery (which gets old at home) , have to keep recharging it.

I'd like to see a pic of the label that says 1 amp limit. Everything else on the specs point to a charge limit of at least 3 amps.

I have the very same battery from the same e-bay seller. Mine is branded as Hobbymix and not ECPower but it's easy to see they are the same lipo and my label on the back says 1C charge rate.

I use a converted PC supply also and it works very well.
Here are links showing how to do it if you plan to go that route.

I cant get a pic good enough, even with a 10meg camera. The print is small on the battery and i cant find anything online about it, everything goes back to the ebay picture.

I have another question for you. I have 4 batterys like this, The seller isnt getting back to me and i was wondering if i could fix this battery. Iconnected it into my carger and a friends charger. Both times it said there is a connection interuption type error. Then i connected it into my wall charger which charges thru the ESC cable and it worked. Then i plugged it into my can and the light in the ESC came on for about 5 seconds then went out and the car died. Can you think of something that is fixable, mabey not by me but an actual expert? The nearest hobby shop is about 30 min away and i havent made it there yet.

I'm assuming your wall charger is a lipo charger. Did you give it a full charge with the wall charger before trying it in the car?

Which cable do you usually connect when charging your batteries normally on the imax?
You should be charging through the main battery plug, and if you are balance charging then you connect both the main plug and the balance plug.

Also, does your esc have a lvc?
If you drain the voltage on your lipos too low they can be permanently damaged.

Ok, a connection interruption error means there is a break in the circuit somewhere, it could be internally where the cells are connected, or it could be a broken wire or a problem with either the plug on the battery.
