Ok just want to know how many tanks of fuel do i need to run with the wheels off the ground for break in. My manual says 3 tanks with wheels off the ground then contradicts its self in step 2 of break in proccess where it states on the 3rd tank do low rpm boxes.
how many break in tanks do i need to run before i can go balls to the wall?
o the truck is a Savage X 4.6 all stock

Really no right answer as there are several break in methods....I dont see the need in running 3 tanks with wheels off the ground. If you are going to use the manufacturers recommendation, I personally would interpret the 3rd tank as a low rpm (1/4 throttle) run with wheels on the ground, then follow directions from there. Most importantly is to let it cool with piston at BDC after every run.

I've developed my own pattern over the years. I generally idle through a tank, then run it with very varied throttle for a couple more. With proper engine maintenance it seems to be working fine for me.

up till the 10th 12th tank be moderate and only do full throttle blips(5-10 seconds)
To get Bottom Dead Center heres what I do
Take out the glowplug
Shine a light down the hole
rotate the flywheel till the piston is perfectly at the bottom
put a mark on your flywheel at the top
after every run make sure that marks at the top when the engine is cooling
That will help you get the most like out of your engine.
