ORIGINAL: Stampede Killer

we need a video of that thing if you can, and does it still wheelie?
It still wheelies quite well. I would say it goes 15-20 feet from a dead stop hitting full throttle. If you're going in reverse and hit full forward throttle it'll still flip it right over!!! I like it, because I gained performance and still kept some of the craziness that makes it fun.

9.6v with a 17t motor!! Yours must be insane!!! I'm only running 7.2v with a 17t motor. How did you get an eight cell to fit into it? Their is barely enough room in mine for my six cell. If you put the 18t pinion in there with that kind of power you'll be going between 40-50mph at top speed without a doubt!!! It'll be awesome!!! That we'll definitely need to see some video of!!!

Hey guys, New lunch box owner here. Just bought the kit about a week ago from my LHS. It was the only left in my area. Here are some pics. Already ordered CVA's HPI five star wheels and am going to attempt the 3rd shock mod soon. Now I am trying to decide which motor to run. I've spent the last couple of days reviewing this thread checking out all the cool ideas on here.

Default RE: Return of Lunchbox..

i have a gearbox problem!!! stop press!!!

yes you heard me right!!

and its baffled me! the gearbox started clicking then locked up all together. i stripped it down and the pinion had come off of the motor so i refitted it thinking that was the problem but it wasnt, with the motor out the gearbox turns freely, the motor also spins free and fast and quiet by hand and by battery,

i fitted the motor back without the motor cover and it all seems to be meshing well. but locks back up.

any ideas guys hehe.

im going to swap parts one by one tomorrow until i find the fault.

It sounds to me like something has a TINY bit of wear (bushing or bearing on a shaft or something) and that is causing it to bind under power. I would inspect it very thoroughly and make sure nothing has even the slightest bit of play. Good luck, and let us know.

yeah im having a good strip and clean up tomorrow. will wash every part and examine closely for wear, cracks etc. then i will rebuild it changing one part at a time to find out when the binding begins again.

full bearings yes.

i have found the problem and in true british style have fixed it without spending a penny on it!!

the counter gear had 2 teeth that were bured over so that when the pinion gear came to that part it couldnt mesh properly,

my remedy, file the 2 teeth back into shape(ish) and it all seems ok for now.

so LB fans my advice is this.. if you're going to go fast.. grease your gearbox frequently!!!!!

i think the damage caused the pinionto come loose of the motor because the grub screw wont go in straight anymore,

had to force it back in. i ave ordered another counter gear and pinion just incase but i want to see how long this will last

Well i Just got my CVA's in yesterday from Tower and I was wondering how you guys set them up? Mainly which piston and spring did you use? Stiff or soft spring? 1,2 or 3 hole piston? Thanks

here is a picture of my damaged spur gear,

i cant see it lasting long when it gose back in. the top of the two damaged teeth was wedged in the gaps beween the rest of the teeth,

so i hae filed the damege away and it stil meshes with the pinion.... just.

I use Integy Piggybacks, but I would go with soft spring, 3 hole, and light fluid. The lunchbox is VERY light and does not need much resistance in the suspension department. Especially in the back. Right now in all 4 corners I have 30wt. fluid, 3 hole, and soft springs. It works good in the front, because their is a little more weight, but I'm going to switch to 5 or 10wt. fluid in the back depending on which I can find. The back has almost no chassis weight. It's all unsprung weight in the axle assembly and that makes it harder to set up.
