what is the best homemade sticky stuff for a full day of combat? I have heard of honey and also a syrup/grape jelly mix. What else around the house can be used.

I'm not sure there is a "best". Ive seen the following used:
- one part of 5min epoxy (either part, just remember which part, in case you need to re-apply that day)
- elmers glue stick
- chapstick
- double sided tape
There are tons of options, that's for sure. It doesn't take much.

Both of my sons fly combat; they use pine tar.
Baseball players use it to get a better grip
on the bat. You should be able to get it from
a sporting goods store. It comes in a spray
and "liquid".

If you want something for that and you want a litle pick-me-up as well you can try Karo Syrup. It has been used at my field as well as the Pine Tar.

Gastro, the sticky stuff, sometimes called, krap, is put on the leading edge to catch and hold the streamer. If not used, many times one will see a streamer slide over the wing without a cut.
Most of it cleans off with spray detergent if not left on too long. If left on several days, it gets a little difficult.

Gastronom, do what I did. Build one for a friend. (SPAD) Fly them when there are a lot of other pilots there.
When you get a new guy to join you, let him cut your streamer a couple times.

Gastronom, Ky. is one of the more active combat states. Contact Harold or Tina at Flying Z Hobbies in Sebree, Ky and ask if they know of pilots in Frankfort. 270-835-9001 Nice folks
I grew up in Frankfort in the earley '40s. Lived on the hill just above the Old Crow Distillery. Great part of the country.
