its all in the tires.... they pick up speed becuase of the tires they use more so then the motors.... if ur using PVC dont expect alot of speed.... if u can find ABS pipe its softer and still drifts and u can pick up some speed.... the simple trick is painters tape... or masking tape... put a good 8-10 layers on each tire... good as gold till it wears off lol.... try it out it does work

I use the ABS also but I'm as of now I trying out the HPI Stage D tires their made out of a hard rubber compound, almost feels like soft plastic. Way more Speed and great drifts but not as dramatic as ABS. but if it drift from a high speed your look for, I would recommend them. I would give them a try at least once because their a little pricey compare to ABS. ABS for me is still the way to go for fun and cost.

The SG Drifters use silvercan motors and PVC tires. It says so at the end of the 4th movie. As for the speed, it's most likely just how the action was videotaped.
And, oh yea. Cossie, not trying to knock you or anything, but how can Andrew say you're a pretty good drifter when he and the SG guys are from Singapore and you're from England? Just seems a little odd that you'd make a claim like that. Maybe it's cuz the RCU members aren't members of DRC Central and/or RC Dori?

The thing with videos is that the action is decreased in size so seems fast, and don't forget you don't get the same sensation of speed when you're driving yourself as you only focus on a non moving object relative to what you're looking at (your car of course)
Hey cossie, nil desperandum dude (that's a motivational quote by the way)
