Can anyone tell me if there are stronger pins for the front caster blocks available? Both of mine were bent bad. I am putting RPM bearing carriers and caster blocks, but I would like to upgrade the pins too if there are stronger ones.

Thanks in advance.

try adding the rpm front bumper, I went through more than my share of caster blocks till I added that big wide front bumper, not needed one since. if I do manage to destroy another caster block I'll be replacing them with the RPM option now that its available.

I have the RPM front bumper. I was installing the RPM bearing carriers when I found the bent pins. One of the caster blocks is cracked, so I ordered the RPM blocks. I was hoping for a stronger pin, but maybe with the stronger blocks I won't need it. I would still rather have it though, just for insurance.

rpm guarantees everything they make. I have seen in the past they stick to parts that are harder to break [who here has ever broken a bearing carrier?] to keep warranty claims down. I don't think they would have released a caster block if it wasn't a huge improvement over that factory piece of *****.

I haven't actually received the blocks yet, so I can't make a comparison. Probably this is how all stock caster blocks fail, but they were spread apart a little and that gave enough clearance for the pins to bend. I just figured that if you have to take it off anyway, that is a good time to upgrade.

I've got a question about gearing...I have an older Rustler and I'm adding the XL-5 ESC and the 12T motor.....what would be a good gear ratio?

Would it be possible to get from one of you the RPM parts number for the caster blocks, if possible from Tower? Sorry, for some reason just can't find it myself.

Stock gearing is 23T pinion and 86?T spur. There's also a 28Tpinion supplied, but it will get the motor hot very quickly on anything but flat pavement.

You have debris lodged some where in the drive.
The motor has slipped and is not engaging the spur gear properly.

Do expect it to be very durable and to give a run for your money. Don't expect lots of speed out of the box. It can be fast but requires some mods. Do expect the idlear gear to blow out sometime. Do expect to be upgrading to better bearing carriers whether they be traxxas, RPM, or some other peoples.

But remember to have fun with it. It's a great truck.

im new to this, been in electric lil over 4 months, had a tmaxx, but nitro is so agrevating. i have a brushless xl7 with a few things done.
18/86 plenty of power and motor stays cool.
aluminum idle gear
adjustable toe bars (cut from another set of turnbuckles, with the ballends screwed back on)
brushless mamba max 4600
i bought 4 5000mah nimh tenergy batteries, i didnt have much luck with the lipos...
rpm wide bumper
the front arms have been hollowed
i go thru tires left and right so lil cheap prolines on rear, front still stock
rpm bearing carriers
bearings all the way arround
bully rims on the back

i put deans connectors between the motor and esc to fix the cogging that happens with the stock mamba connectors.
well, between the chargers, bought the truck new, and brushless, and batteries, and so on so fourth, i got to figuring... i have over $900 in evertything i have, i now have 3. 2 evaders, 2 rustlers, one is in the process of jangnification. alot lighter, and havent run it yet.
cheah, gotta love electric.

nitro sucks

I have an XL-5 rustler mostly stock. I am thinking about getting the Money Motor since everyone seems to be hot on it. I also just got some new Pede tires for bashing. Other than RPM parts its stock. my batteries are cheapos if it matters, but I was curious what if any gearing changes should be made if I get the checkpoint 19t MM with the Pede tires.
I asked this question in my own post, but only got 1 response saying I should start with 12t and move up. That seemed low and since I only own the stock pinion it didnt seem feasable. Any suggestions?

if you get the "money motor" get the 4600kv mamba, it has more torque i think than the 7700kv, b/c i smoked an evader with the 77 on it. i got him on the jump and in the distance. of course i was using an outragous pinion. i used my 28t on an 86t spur. if u try it DO NOT use it in the dirt or racing, hella good top speed, medium take off for me on a full battery on asphalt. but alltogether, as far as temp and speed not being hurt, i use an 18t pinion with the stock spur. fits my 4600 beautifully, ill still smoke a revo in a strait up drag on asphalt. i love it.

My Rustler's stock motor finally took a crap so today i purchased a Mamba Max 7700kv with ESC. I also added a 17t pinion. This thing is insane now.. wheelies everywhere. Anyone know the top speed of this setup? thanks.

Haven't been able to find it on the MM 5700kv on 3s OR 2s....hehehehehehe! Can't keep the parts all hanging on long enough to "stretch her out"! I'm guessing 60+ on 3s. 50-55 on the 2s Ploy RC cells I'm running from my Hydro. Talk about a part time effort.... I can't afford to rebuild it every time I run it. The speeds are faster than my boats...which ain't no slow boats....

Hi guys,

I am getting one of these for my birthday ( june 4) this year. I am not that experianced in electric rc, and was wondering what battery and charger
I should buy with the car. I am getting the 3705 version. Is the older rusty faster stock than the new one? Will get back to me.... trying to keep the price anywhere around 230.00 dollars....

Thanx
