RE: Official Rustler Thread
I think the answer you seek is a bit of opinion.... The rustler is good for bashing, the XL-5 is better than the VXL if you don't want to replace parts as often cause it's not as fast or powerful. Then again you'll end up replacing the motor cause it's not brushless. I personally like the Rustler cause it has a lower center of gravity than the emaxx and the stampede. The Stampede is almost exactly the same truck except that it's lifted about an inch and a half higher, which means a higher center of gravity and lower ability to turn at any speed without rolling.
An E-maxx might be good, but that's also a 1/8 scale truck, bigger everything.... which means it requires more power to push it.

LOSI ADAM DRAKE 2 SHOCKS: Update 3
After swapping the rod ends and readjusting the shocks, I took it out today with my new set of Talon tires and I gotta say, it handles GREAT! I think I'm satisfied with my upgrade to the Losi parts despite the time wasted getting them set right. Plus they make the truck look pretty sweet and they're easy to adjust on the fly.
Now if I could only figure out my weak servo problem... I'll have to search for another thread for that topic...

RE: Official Rustler Thread
Since there was just discussion about the swami bar, I have a question about it. I use my truck mainly for bashing...alright, that's all I use my truck for is bashing. Would the swami bar hold up well to constant jumps and rolls that are common from hard bashing sessinos?
I just ordered a VXL tranny because I was stripping out gears in my old rustler tranny. If I keep the slipper tight enough to do wheelies while I'm bashing, will I break the metal gears? Thanks for any advice.

I don't own a Swami, but it should be fine for bashing.
I have my VXL slipper tightened down all the way and it hasn't stripped a gear after months of hardcore bashing.... even my plastic spur gear is still fine! I have it tightened all the way cause it seems even backing it off just a little bit results in too much slip. I think I might need new shoes or something, but it works fine the way it is now.

RE: Official Rustler Thread
all i can say is wow. ran my new vxl rustler today with one of my 4200 7 cells and the thing hauled. im used to my other rustler with a 17t in it and this thing flys. im to scared to jump it. i did a couple times but she looks so perdy brand new in all. scraped my chasis already just from runing around. now i know what you guys mean when u say wheel bar manditory. and by the way i kept hearing that people kept losing rear tires first time out. so i checked they with a socket before i went but with my fingers. sure enough the thing did a roll in the grass and before i could get the tire from spining out it came and i lost the nut. but took one off my other truck. what tires are some of you guys runing on the vxl for offroading? new vxl owner and proud owner of now two rustlers

well with the rustler you have limited options with the stock rims cause there 2.8. if you upgrade to some 2.2 rims your options are endless

RE: Official Rustler Thread
I have a set of Mashers on 2.2 rims for off-road and dirt AND a set of Talons on 2.8 rims for street and all-terrain. The stock tires are tiny compared to the others, you will be surprised how much better the truck looks and handles with bigger tires!
Funny you mentioned the rear tire coming off on the first run, mine did that too. Tightened them down and hasn't happened since!
ANOTHER recommendation I would like to make is that you get some of the aluminum locking hexes. Those things are so awesome for not only changing tires, but when you're working on it you can pull a tire off quick and no worries about loosing the tiny pin and/or bushings. They keep everything in place and they won't deform like the plastic ones if you torque down the lug nut, which is what I think broke the rim on my first pair of mashers.
Here's what the mashers look like...

RE: Official Rustler Thread
I think I got them on eBay. I got the Integy ones for around $20 or so. Rustlers use the 12mm hexes so make sure that's what you get.

Wierd. Now I can't find them on eBay or Integy's site. I did find some simmilar ones.... mine are blue anodized and I swear they are from Integy, but I guess I could be wrong. Funny how hard it was to even find something similar, but at least this link shows what I'm talking about.

RE: Official Rustler Thread
I think Integy is fine... someone else was hatin on them cause their mini-T shock tower bent. Big deal, shock towers bend sometimes... I personally realise that some parts are prone to bending and I'll keep those parts flexible. So far I have Integy steering blocks, caster blocks, bulkhead and locking hexes. Only Integy part I returned was their front links cause the ball joints were way too tight.
