As Rob says, things are fine when you run 2S, so I doubt if there's anything drivetrain-wise that is causing the ESC to overheat. If there was a bad bearing, or something else binding, then you'd be looking at a motor overheating problem. I just think (even though both those esc's are rated at 3S) running motors over 5000kv on 3S is too much for the ESC's to handle. You may be able to get away with it in the spring or fall, but not in the hot summer heat.

Also their is a guy on my Jato 3.3 vs Brushless HPI 3S youtube video that refuses to believe we were doing close to 50. He also claims reversing the rears arms is similar to the second coming of Christ when it comes to running your firestorm. ill link it http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rPep7O7R-Bc
Wonder who that is!

that guy would be me.

I thought the exact same name would be pretty bloody obvious.

and I've done enough speed runs to know what modifications are required to get what speeds!

I think hitting 50 on a near stock firestorm with 3S "in early spring 50F outside" a Novak Havoc3S 5000khv with 21/87 gearing and having trouble controlling it with 3 pounds of tire wieghts tie wrapped to the front end is fairly easy to believe and the Jato does 50mph outta the box even with a gimped front end.
Novak has a nice trade in for esc and motor's I might take that into consideration gonna look at what they have.

When we catch a salmon it goes into a cooler full of ice so when we get it home its dry and some what stiff and cold hence no water on the paper. We found that if you put them in the live well with water the meat will go mushy after a few hours.

I thought I saw orange RIT dye. If you can't find it anywhere. I might be able to send you some. I was thinking of dying my parts but, never did. I still think it would look awesome.

Ok gotta be something wrong with my rig possible the differential that I really need the forums help with. Ive been getting thermals when running a MM 5700 and a Novak ballistic 8.5T ''5000khv'' with 15/87 gearing with a Thunder Power 3S 25c ''. Ive tried both systems and consistently getting temps of 150 to 170F on the ESC shutting down the Novak and 120 to 150 on the motors the battery is under 90F. Something has to be wrong with the firestorm to having the same problem with both systems Ohh and I never get close to that with 2S running 23/87 my ESC stays under 130 with both systems on 2S and the motor temps run around 90ish. THe 3S perfect balances and holds voltage and Ive check all the wires and soldering connections. Does anyone any idea's or suggestions??
Get some lower kv motors. You are pushing those two way too close to the edge on 3s, that 5700 castle motor is pulling over 60k rpm. As far as I'm aware, the Castle 5700 is only rated to 3s in lightweight touring cars, not stadium trucks. If the motor is under pressure, the ESC is also under pressure, after all, the motor only spins that fast because the ESC is phasing that fast. GEaring probably won't make a difference, you are simply overdriving that motor. I'd drop to a 4600kv and gear up a bit. Same with the Novak.

guys, i was just out messing with the e storm, throwing a few flips failing at a lot more and for what i threw at it nothing broke, i wasn't goign super huge on the air (didn't have a huge run up for speed, nor the best jump) but there were many a landing that you could see the a arm visibly deflect significantly, 20 mins of good bashing nothing broke, i only came in cuz i poped the rear bone out (and had to pretty myself up for company that should be here...), cuz the arm deflected soo much when i clipped a rock, i thought i had busted something or at least bent a buckle...

truely impressd

btw my setup

storm, CC sw 4600, 2s 25c 5000mha lipo, 19/87 (stock isn't that) gearing and proline badlands out back, i could probally go up a tooth on the pinion but i'm gunna leave it for now cuz i'm off to go play with castles new TQ limiting stuff

yeah it was, till i dropped a pinion and destoryed the spur, totally shreded its uggly, i'll snag a pic in a bit...

also i've been playing with castle's new power settings in castle link, i'm liking it alot, its supre easy to make the car good for a beginner, or have soo much power you' dont' know what to do with it... also the kv detector, super cool, my 4600 is reading 5400kv unloaded with 0 timing, tho when i bumped it up it dropped about 200kv when i went to 5* and then stayed about that +/- 50kv when i went to 15* but this is all at the speedo, not on the motor...

I wonder if your k rating means that the rating given on the motor is loaded then. Thanks for letting me know about the update to the castle link, the kv determining part is new and pretty cool. They reworked the software a lot with the latest version. The only concern I have is that in order to get the kv rating you have to run the motor wide open for three seconds without contact to the spur gear.

yeah, i did it a few times today, and the motor ran great the whole time, it never got above 5 sec as far as temps (yes i did just use time as a mesure of temp) and that was as i was removing the punch control, and boosting start power and timing, but as you lowered it temps went down, but it cogged a bit more due to the less umph to get things going, i also had to really bump up reverse power, cuz it jsut had nothing in reverse with a tq limiting value of 4 i think, it wasn't till 6 or 7 that it started to really be able to pull the car out of some not so nice ground, once i bumped the power from like 60% to 100% it was all good...

i'm sure its unloaded the highest value i drew was 5400kv is of my 4600, tho most others were around 5200kv i wanna put it in my B4 go down to the school open her up in test mode and hope i have enuf room for it to get the data... then see what kinda #'s i pull... (and yes the local high school is the closest place with a realatively flat open area)

if you can't tell i'm really loving this, it's gunna be great for like newbs drop the tq, take out the wheelies and the accel but they still get the speed, it's just super nice
