Thanks for that, AL3xGR.
I did some more fiddling and I've found the motor makes the grinding sound a lot more often when torque control is used. I can almost do it on command with torque control set at only 4. With out torque control I find it difficult to replicate the behaviour.

I've been doing some more research on the issue I'm having with my ESC/Motor.
Apparently a few others are having the same issue with their Castle branded ESC motor combos, all with Sv2s. When using torque control the motor makes a grinding noise under throttle, has very little power when making this noise and generates a lot of heat.
Has anyone on here running a Sv2 had a similar issue?

EDIT: It can be from the power that gets to the motor(it can also emit a sound except the shaft rotation.)

Yeah, the Sv2 and Mamba Max can be, but anything branded HPI has to wait for the firmware to be approved by HPI. Even though it's the exact same ESC as the Sv2.

So you can update but won't do it because HPI said so or are you blocked in the software from updating? You only have a three month warranty, I'd go for it and make the update if you can. There isn't a lot of information on the SV2 since its so new. I think you are one of two people using it who are active in the forum.
SCT setup in the blitz is great and much more controllable than the firestorm. It ran 95F last night when it was 75F outside and I did all I could to get it hot for a full pack. Its isn't as nimble to turn and whip around in the street but its very stable at speed and doesn't wheelie. It has 88/23 gears on it and I am going to switch to 83/23 since there is some room to go. I feel like trying 27/83.

I used the castle link and did a firmware update on my hpi branded castle esc....was I not supposed to. it seemed to work just fine. truck still hauls

I need to get the radar gun on the 4-pole 4600 yet but there is a clear winner as far as power between the 4600 and 3800 motors.
4600 setup: 88/19 gears, no torque control, 70% punch control. 3s, 5000 mah 35/60C thunderpower battery
3800 setup: 88/23 all other parameters the same.
The 4600 can't be geared and taller and the 3800 is hitting 130 F with that gearing. This tells me the 3800 isn't being pushed and the 4600 is at its limit. I took the 4600 out today and with careful throttle could get it up to full speed in the same area the 3800 would flip over by 46mph with a lot of throttle left to go. My buddy is coming over to hold the gun this afternoon to get the 4600s speed.
The 3800 is hands down more powerful and runs cooler than the 4600. Its running 83/23 gears in the blitz and isn't hitting 100F. I am going to put an SCT motor in the firestorm.

Firestorm with 4600 4-pole was 52 mph (same as before, this number comes up often).
Blitz with the 3800 SCT was 46 mph without the body and 40 mph with the body. I think I will give it a few more teeth.
I got my mongoose setup for the mini comp crawler today and have that truck set up. The battery isn't quite right for it but will do for now. They are selling the mini comp crawler with the losi excelorin brushless crawler setup at the local hobby shop for 185. Its comes out to being cheaper than buying an RTR brushed mini crawler.

The batteries were on the bottom half by that time too. Its not hard to believe with that huge body. It really hides what little there is underneath. SC does make somebody feel like they have a 1/8 scale truck for under 300 dollars though.
It turns out my lipo receiver pack for my nitros will run my crawler so I'm good. Blitz is getting a 26t pinion.

Just had a good run, Full pack and I had to stop 2 times as the motor was 180f and esc 150f. The temps come down quick if you stop for a minute. When the motor was 180f my ESE heatsink motor mount plate was 135f....So I guess it does help pull the heat away.

Thats a lot of heat. I had a fan on my heat sink for a while and wonder if that would help. I assume very little since its a bit down the line from the heat source. In addition to the ESE motor plate heat sink it is also a lot thicker than the FS and regular blitz plate.
I finished my mini comp crawler tonight. It uses a lipo receiver pack from my D8.
I've been lazy to post photos and take video. Its because I usually go out alone and don't have a camera man. I will try to get some video...

I bet you'll be given a firmware upgrade. How did they get so many out of the box like that without a problem. Certainly others have bought these new storms without problems. I wonder if there is a batch with a different firmware from a rolling change?

I'm hoping it's just a firmware issue. I'll wait to use it until Castle update the firmware for it. Then I'll override the HPI block and install the new firmware. It'll take ages for HPI to pass the firmware on otherwise.
