Hi guys,

I need to change my Tamiya ESC to a better one, so what do you recommend?
Novak ones are ok, but these are one of my favorites: http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...&I=LXUY13&P=ML

I was wondering the same as well, the Tamiya ones are ok, unless if you using a low turn motor.

I'm using a Novak Rooster Crawler ESC. Its working pretty well for me, pretty strong drag brake so it holds decently on inclines, rolls slowly on steeper inclines. Goes nice and slow for crawling. A friend told me if I changed the pinion it would hold even better. The stock motor on my rig barely gets the ESC heated. Even lots of climbing and tough stuff I've felt the ESC and it was just barely warm. It isn't adjustable, as far as the drag brake hold. If you want adjustability of the drag brake, you have to go with a Tekin FXR. People have good things to say about those.

LB,

Been awhile - but I got the Land Cruiser done. Nothing fancy - just used all the stock stuff and a Tazer 12t ESC. Took it out and it was a blast. Oh yah - I added lights as well.

Here are the pics.

Yeah, TamiyaUSA website does not support direct linking, but you can go to the Unimog product page and the link to the PDF file is there... !!

LB,

I used the TLU-01 - wanted to keep it all Tamiya - well kind of - the ESC I needed to get it done so forgive the Tazer.

The caster blocks on the axles kinda got me - but I got them figured out. Other than that a pretty straight forward build.

The caster blocks are great, as it allows more extreme axle angle while still retaining good caster setting.. (unlike a TLT axle, for example..)

Tamiya learns as well, you know...

LB,

It actually does steer - I was surprised. I only locked the rear and was able to get over everything I wanted. I just did not want a huge turning radius. I might lock the front as well.

Since I never had a crawler - not really sure what to do. I have just been trying to run everything over to see what will stop it. The only thing I have found is a wall - the rest has been fair game.

LOL! Wall..

Glad that you are having a good time w/ it! Yeah, for me, I locked both front and rear during the build, as it is an dedicated crawler.. I just figured that if I want regular bashing, I'd bust out my Clod or TXT or something.. this one will be locked from the get go!!

Hi LB,

So here is my problem, I installed Futaba S9350 in the front & JR DS8511 in the rear and when I link them by Y harness or the FR servo in CH1 & RR servo in CH3 to achieve 4WS the wheels would freeze and won't turn after 10 sec.

I reprogrammed the TEU-302 and I've changed the receiver and the same problem occurs, so I am thinking that may be my ESC is damaged some how.

BTW only two of our CR-01's are having this problem.

Do you know if the TEU-302 has built-in BEC to regulate the voltage down? I know TEU-101 does NOT..

If you use digital servo, that might cause problem?

But strange that only 2 of the 4 trucks are having the problem..

When you only use 1 servo, does the problem still exist?!

Yes, even with ONE servo. And yes I use digital highe torque servo's.

I think too that the TEU-302 deosn't have BEC.

I've just finished making my rig to do 4WS & Crab Steering along with 2WS with my Futaba 3pm (2.4 Ghz) without using reversed Y Harness.

Its fun, now I can decide when I want to do 2WS or 4WS or Crab Steering. Thanks to bbeaty & Joat from [link=http://www.rccrawler.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24564]RCCrawler.com[/link]

so if im planning to do 4WS with a two channel controller that means i gotta get a Y spillter wire? also the kit only came with one servo horn that fits on the futaba i wonder if my hobby store carries the horns that work for unimog
