RE: The Official Traxxas Slash short-course race truck
Slightly OT, but last night I finally got around to watching the TORC race from Crandon WI that aired over the weekend. Great racing, too bad they don't televise every class and race. I cannot for the life of me understand why this type of full-scale racing doesn't get more airtime and sponsor support! Back on topic, after the races I started putting the finishing touches on my new race body for the Slash. The old black and blue stock body will now be relegated to practice duty.

More for your viewing pleasure. I'm going to a track tomorrow, hopefully get some good photos. I'll be racing against a Tamiya DF-01.

RE: The Official Traxxas Slash short-course race truck
Well, after doing some reading via searching this site and the traxxas site on what to do about my diff set up. I will tell you, people have done it all....oil, grease, silicone, glue,jb weld, paper(yes paper),silly puddy etc. I decided to start with removing, and cleaning all the old grease out, and then packed it tight with napa bearing grease. filled it 110% until it oozed out while putting it together. Just took it out. PERFECT for me. Love the way it handles...and no more sliding out on the pebbles and loose dirt. It still has some slip with the grease, but thats ok by me. Just figured I'd share.

It will loosen up. Pretty soon it will be back to stock. The slash diffs are not sealed and that grease thins out and just seaps out. Enjoy it while it lasts though.

How long you think I have before it returns back to the way it was? are you talking 3-5 battery runs or maybe a bit longer. Now I'm curious. I have to say...In my search I found alot of people that prefered bearing grease.

RE: The Official Traxxas Slash short-course race truck
Alright, so I guess I just ripped a rear tire [&:]
Any suggestions on a replacement? I don't really want to get the fancy dancy beadlock rims yet, so probably just the tires this time. I was thinking of just getting the same thing as a replacement, but if you guys have something better to suggest I'm all ears, the cheaper the better!
Also, do I need specific tire glue? Or will regular old loctite super glue work? Any tips/tricks? I'm hoping the tire holds up for awhile...doesn't look like too big of tear, I might try throwing some of the super glue in there and see if it'll hold, think that'll buy me some time?
edit: and yes, I AM using a case of cd jewel cases as a truck stand [8D]

The shipping on most of those seems like murder...25% of the product price...? geez.

mountings easy. removal of the old ones is hard.

RE: The Official Traxxas Slash short-course race truck
Brainanator, I'm not sure if your running in a stock class for racing. If not you might want to eventually consider going to 1/8 buggy wheels and tires. They require a 17mm adapter for them to work. There are several different companies that make them. You could do an advanced search for 17mm adapters in the Slash forum on Traxxas forums.
Here is one of the better threads from there. http://monster.traxxas.com/showthrea...=17mm+adapters
While your there, look around for Mohawk or Big Block tires. There is a guy on ebay that sells cheap 1/8 buggy tires and rims. Here is a link to his store. http://stores.shop.ebay.com/Supra-Sa...34Q2ec0Q2em322
If you go with 1/8 buggy tires you will probably need to cut a little of the body away. I have a set of back ordered adapters coming from Tower. They are the Integy ones for the Slash and I thought I would try them despite Integy's reputation LOL. It will be a while before I need them as my Slash is a shelf queen compared to yours LOL.
Anyways, I hope this helps or at least gives you another way to modify your Slash. I'm new to this hobby also and find all the mods highly interesting.

RE: The Official Traxxas Slash short-course race truck
I have a nOOb question. When I got my Slash the suspension was pretty springy, now that it has some drive time on it when you push down on it, it stays down, even with the shocks off the a arm movement no longer feels smooth. I have taken all the pins out and cleaned it thoroughly but it didn't help. Is this common, if not what I can I do to fix it?

Thanks for the tip Dialed_in, I don't think I want to change to the buggy wheels yet, I like the look of the smaller ones that it already has. But that might be something useful later on.
A-Main sells the stock rear wheels for $23.91 shipped, will probably go that route.

Some photos of my Slash and my mates Bandit bashing.
And some photos of my Slash after I hit a sandstone boulder at full throttle.
ENJOY!
