Summit release date?
Traxxas' site says Jan 30, tommorow, does this mean it's already been shipped and hobby shops can start to sell it tommorow, or is that the day they start shipping them out to shops and/or distributors? I'm getting conflicting information from just about everyone I've talked to or heard.

RE: Summit release date?
Are you getting one Access? To add to your e maxx and e revo? That would be a pretty sweet combination of trucks. Wonder if the stock tranny would hold up to a MMM though cause i guarantee that traxxas will be having issues with those stock motors.

dude for 126 more you might as well just get the savage brushless. standing backflips are a big turn on. That price is basically a free MMM.

RE: Summit release date?
Has anyone picked one of these up yet?
I thought for an instant they were listed as 'in stock, limited quantities' on tower (around 2pm or so) but when I looked again to confirm it, they were out again. Maybe I was just seeing things.

There's a "first impression" thread up access,it's got pics from OP and someone posted a vid from youtube. It looks really sweet.

The bad first, the transmission micro servo didn't make it through the first battery...
The truck handles extremely well at speeds. This is not surprising since in stock trim with two 7 cell NIMH it sits barely higher than the eRevo and the big tires give it a 2" wider and longer stance...The truck was never on its back today. If anything, it is more planted than the Revo. It jumps with ease but may need the shock springs tightened up if you want to make big jumps a habit. I think it bottoms out after the moderate jumps easier than the Revo. It is about as fast off road as my Slash, maybe between 6&7 cells. I don't think it would hang with my eRevo. Not one complaint about handling either at speed or when grinding up some slippery slope all locked up. It does what it is advertised to do. Power sides are effortless and as I said, rather amazingly, it never did roll today.
It is NOT a rock crawler...Too little ground clearance for the long wide stance....As a boondocks basher, nearly perfect. I slid sideways into a crevasse and got stuck in standard 4WD. By putting it in low and locking up the diffs I was able to worm my way out. The bigger tires naturally roll in and out of cracks and minor crevasse better than the eRevo tires. The only thing that stops it is to totally high center it to where none of the wheels have any bite. I managed to do this a couple of times today...I quit after about 45 minutes when I noticed I no longer had low gear. The 5000 mah battery was still going and starting to show some performance slow down...
This truck is not uncomplicated either mechanically or electronically. There are 5 servos. Two for steering, one for each diff and one for the tranny. The linkages for the diffs and tranny are just a little flimsy. Bent wire through servo horn type setups with springy servo savers or in the case of the tranny a spring loaded actuator. The servo linkage loads the spring which then moves the tranny lever in or out...There is also some sort of solid state switch that takes the channel 4 output from the 3 position diff locking switch and splits it to the appropriate front or rear diff servo. I got a new Traxxas micro servo (Hobby Town trip) installed and adjusted in less than 10 minutes but re-routing the servo wire into the 'waterproof' receiver box looks like 30-45 minutes of sweat and zip ties for tomorrow morning....There's not a lot of room in the chassis with this setup. Bottom line, the chassis and running gear are A+ so far, the extra electronics and linkages are C-. If the mechanics of the diffs and tranny hold up, it would be worth re-engineering the respective servos and actuation linkages....

Also my two steering servos were not matched out of the box (both servos were fighting each other) so I had to fix that.
Maximum articulation with all 4 wheels on the ground I am getting about 8".
I'll take some outdoor vids of this thing in the next week or whenever it stops raining.

It was a lot of fun. If ultimate FAST is your thing, get an eRevo. However, if you like taking your truck to the boonies and playing around with scale 4WD driving as well as some tooting around at decently fast speeds, the Summit is your truck....

For competition crawling it also has way too much slop in the transmission. It will roll back and forth a few inches with those big wheels.
