Hello guys,
Do you guys race or just drive for fun? I'm still kinda new to nitro but have raced electric for years. I really love nitro but these cars really get dirty, lol, I just keep cleaning it like it's and electric car, lol. Anyway I'm glad to see an R40 fan base. Not all cars start with a M or an S.

im closing in on 75 miles on my r-40 and have never had a drop of oil leak from the front or rear diffs. maybe you missed a step or a seal during assembly. it should be squeaky clean. or maybe one of the parts is defective. maybe you should pull it out, clean it up and rebuild it . good luck. --------chris

There is a gasket or 2 in there, make sure it's properly sealed. A one-way is gonna change the way it handles, as I'm sure you're aware. If I were you, I'd try another stock one(cheaper) until you get your lap times within a 1/10th of a second of each other...

I just pulled a shard of broken glass from my rear diff housing. It ate my belt, and part of the housing. Another chunk got in the front as well, but it ate the diff itself! There's a bar right across the street from the track, so I imagine somebody got trashed and broke a bottle on the track. I never saw the glass, not until I was pulling chunks of it from my car...

Hi, i'm not very familiar with the r40, although i do have a rs4 3 rtr that is bone stock, i don't really race but i think i might start racing for the next season, the r40 looks like a great race car, how do you guys compare it to the mtx-3 and the kyosho v-one rr ?? cause the guys at my track all run serpent 705 and 710 and a couple of tc3's, i know that the driver makes a big difference but you think an r40 with a pretty decent engine could keep with some of those serpents ??

because i'm really looking foward to purchasing a r40 for racing mostly thanks !!

The R40 makes a great first race car. It's durable and has all the adjustability you'll need. Just make sure your LHS has the parts to support it...

I haven't upgraded that yet. Until I can get my lap times a little more consistant, I won't bother. A good rule of thumb would be to get your lap times to within a .1 second of a lap, then it's the car holding you back. You won't notice the difference until you get to that point...

Neither of the guys on my team have graphite towers, and only one has installed a front one way diff, and he's still re-learning how to drive it. He does like it, he's running a Sirio 1.6 HP engine, so powering out of corners is good/fun for him...

I actually just had to replace my front diff housing. Some drunken jerks shattered glass on our track, and it was und some leaves and debris that I hit while practicing. A couple sharp chunks got up inside 2 places. One stripped the threads off half the front diff, and the other chunk tore my rear belt. I thought about upgrading to a one way, but I'm gonna wait untill I get more consistant...

I have both shock towers. I am running Atsushi Hara's set-up straight off of the internet and this thing is absolutely glued. The only difference between my setup and his setup is the gearing. My track is quite a bit tighter than the one he was running on so I had to use a higher gear ratio.

that sounds great inferno, i'm looking foward to those carbon shock towers. Anyways, i've been doin a lot of researche in suspension settings, and i saw on hpiracing.com that Atsushi Hara uses the progressive red springs in the back and so does Thad Garner, but i still dont understand, what makes the car handle better from the stock settings, is it better to have stiffer suspension in the back and softer in the front, does this make the car corner better since it's easier to shift the weight in the front in order to corner faster and better ??

would anyone know how this works thanks !!

On a nice high traction, smooth track stiffer springs definetly increase traction. I am also running the front one way and 4 gear rear diff. Compared to stock this makes the car handle quite differently. I definetly recommend a TX that has the "ABS" feature on it to keep you from spinning when on the brakes.

Well I use the Airtronics MX-3 (which does not have ABS) and I wish it did because with the front one-way braking can be a bit tricky. A buddy of my uses the Futaba 3PJ-FM (I believe that's what it's called). It just makes braking much more stable.

Both good choices......I really like my MX-3......it's given me no problems whatsoever and it's got a good price tag
