I really like to practice routines, learn new tricks ect on my sim....
I am however Vexed about the lack of realistic sound of IC Engines.
What I mean by this....put your aircraft in a rolling circle or harrier...Do you notice the lack of the change in sound???
THis has been universal to all sims....
Recent check on the Realfight version.....They managed to spend all this time developing INFLIGHT flying, machinegunning, paintballing
ect....but still lack any form of sound, that resembles a rolling IC aircraft.....
Apparently the sim programers don't care.....or they would fix this simplistic flaw....
I wouldn't care if it was a ververberating sound clip of someones rcplane flying by....just fix this already....
Am I the only one that notices this???

You the only one who notices?
Nope
I've got 3 sims. Got them back when they came out. Been waiting since then for any one of them to give us a realistic 2cycle sound. Unfortunately, only one of them is still supported.
The 2cycle sound certainly doesn't match what you hear at the field. And now that I've been flying some electric, that sound really doesn't hack it either. It's close, but still isn't what you hear at our field.
Unfortunately, that company hasn't filled out their list of glow engines either. They don't seem to know what's being flown for 2strokes and don't .............
OK, wait........ I just now decided to stop this post because I realized that I haven't checked out what is in RF5.5, which I just got as a free update a couple of weeks ago.................

Someone in a thread about the Revolver in the ARF forum recently trashed RF for the way that model flies in the RealFlight sim. That was worth a look and I had noticed that all they offer was the 40size Revolver and it's electric. The sound actually wasn't bad and it flew in the sim pretty decently.
There were 4 or 5 downloadable Revolvers over at KnifeEdge, and every one of them sucked one way or another in their flying. But the RF version did pretty good. I get to fly a 60 Revolver every so often and have had 2 flights on the smaller one. The RF version certainly was decent.
Since making the comparison, I've deleted all the downloadable ones. Heck, one of them wouldn't even start to take off, just nosed over when you gave it any throttle at all. I've deleted all of 'em but been left with the desire to have the 60 Revolver with a glow engine on it.
So........... just now, it dawned on me, because of this thread, I ought to see what sounds are now available for the little electric, and just how good/bad they are................

Jeez, am I glad this thread triggered the tests.
First off, I decided the RF Revolver's electric sound wasn't half bad. But opening up the sound options showed a couple worth trying. What really was amazing was opening up the available motor options. There must be a thousand electric motors. I only tried a couple of different sounds. Truth is, in the real world, with electrics you don't hear the motor, just the prop. So I figured I was wasting my time. And I really didn't care enough about getting the electric exactly spot on.
I did however, work a bit on modifying the Revolver they had......... that's pretty far off the subject of sound so I'd best leave this thread to talk about that.
But before I go, I should mention that I THINK Knife Edge has increased the number of optional electric motors with their newer versions. And maybe the number of sounds. They don't always list everything they've added when they upgrade.

Been away for a bit....
I guess I can add that I know it's possible to make better sound bytes....
I just don't know why RF can't make a sound simmular to that of engines when rolling... or when a large rc plane flys by.....
It's darn right exciting to hear in real life....not so in the sims.....
The difference is in the details...not on how many paintballs one can shoot out of a rc plane in a video game..../sim....

The "rolling sound" you are talking about is due to doppler shift as the plane spins.
Realflight does model doppler effects, and is particularly good with flybys.
Reflected sounds are even heard from your rear speakers on a 5.1 setup.
However doppler is not present/modeled when rolling a plane.... adding that is a pretty good suggestion.
Did you try posting that in their support forums? The Developers do listen to user requests there.
Many user requested changes have appeared in the sim in short order.
e.g. we asked for a realistic stopwatch timer in 5.x and received it with one of the patches...
If you don't want to ask for that change, let me know so I can suggest it.
