Default AFP - Will Not Recogize Transmitter

I have recently purchased AFP. After installing it with the cord in com1, I can start the the program but it freezes when looking for a transmitter. Any ideas will be appreciated.

Make sure you transmitter is in PPM, not PCM mode, and make sure it is off until after AFP starts up and finds the adapter.

Then turn the transmitter on.

I first used a JR trainer box and now I am trying a Futaba box. Both are FM is that ok?

Should be fine. Just make sure they are off when you start the program.

Mine seems not to look for the interface until I move the mouse after startup, then it looks, finds the cable, then I turn on my transmitter.

Well that did not work. Does the transmitter require battery power? The JR transmitter came on when the trainer cord was plugged in and the Futaba does not have a battery.

The program just freezes when its looking for the transmitter.

Yes it needs power; you'll need to have a battery in it.

Then turn the transmitter on.
I'm using a JR 631, and my transmitter doesn't need to be turned on to fly the sim. The program will turn the transmitter on automatically. However, the current draw from the transmitter is very low because I've been flying for two weeks now, and my tx battery is still above 10 volts.

I have now down loaded the patch and the program does not freeze. However it still does not see the transmitter. Do you need to set it up as a game controller under step #5?

If the 9C adapter is properly designed, there is no need to use the Tx switch to turn it on. The Tx will be powered up and the RF circuit will be disabled upon plugging in the square connector. If you have to turn the Tx switch on, your RF circuit is probably active and you will need to remove the module.

you have stumbled on the biggest problem with afp. getting it to work with XP. you can refer to my earlier postings a few weeks ago. i've been looking into this for a while now and i can't find the solution. my 2 xp laptops do exactly what you describe. it sees the interface but not the tx.

i gave up with it after about a month solid of trying.

cheers

Well it now sees the transmitter but I cannot get it to calibrate the control surfaces. There either all one way or the other. This is nuts. It looks like it will be good if it ever works properly. I'm not sure of the sales support either. Thanks for your help.

Hi

I have just installed AFP pro on a friends PC for him, running Xp. He is also using a JR tx. The only problem I had was the TX was not in PPM mode to start with. I changed that to PPM and have had no problems ever since.

The calibration was no problem and I reversed the servo channels to match the correct movements, just as in a normal plane. It works great. We spent 2 hours last night trying to hover the G202 and the extra.

My suggestion is to check the bios on your PC, make sure that the serial port is set to a specific address, such as 3f8 and IRQ4.

There is also an update on their website which might help, I have not installed it yet, so that is not the issue for getting to work in this case, but it may help you.

I found out something interesting. I have XP on my PC at home and AFP works fine with my JR transmitters. I also have a laptop running XP and AFP sees the interface but not the JR transmitter. That's right....not any JR transmitter! But guess what? It works fine with a Futaba! I'm going to put a scope on it at work and look at the voltage levels to see what's going on. My guess is that maybe IPACS needs to redesign their interface to make it JR/laptop friendly! Then they should put this info on the web and replace interfaces as required.

***UPDATE*** My Airtronics Vanguard TX works too. Same plug that works with Futaba.

Chuck
