I use Dave Browns latest. I likeit a lot very realistic. How it compares to G2 couldnt tell you. Although Dave Brown says his flies more realistically

Hi,
I'm quite addicted to RC flight simulators (and other PC sims/games too
). I personally own DB RCFS2001, FMS (of course), and Reflex (German flight sim), and my GP RFG2 will be here next week
Thanks to Dave Brown's RCFS sim (ver 3.1) I taught myself to fly in 1992, but that's another story...
I cannot tell you yet how RCFS2001 compares against G2 but I'm pretty sure RCFS2001 falls short. And let me explain. I feel the flight models of RCFS2001 and FMS are very similar. In fact, I think FMS is a little bit better in that respect. I hate the way the planes shake in the pitch axis when they are about to stall in RCFS2001, that's so unreal that it makes me sick/angry/etc...
And if you consider that FMS is freeware and has a huge collection of free add-on planes, I do not see any reason to buy RCFS2001
. Sorry Dave Brown.
Right now, my best flight simulator is Reflex. It's graphics are not photographic quality but its flight model and ground handling of the airplanes are, ohhhhh, superb!
(Down load free demo from http://www.reflex-sim.de/ and see for yourself)
I've read in the net that G2's flight model is better than Reflex's, so if that's the case, G2 will become my new king of the RC sims.
I'll let you know next week....

RC_Stunt, I've had Reflex for a while but have been unable to get it to work with my RC Joystick, I know it works with FMS, RCFS, and RealFlight products as well as Easyfly from Ikarus, but anytime I try and fly with Reflex it just throttles up a little and runs off the runway... did you have any troubles running yours? did you have a pay version? or buy a special adaptor from them? I'm also quite addicted to RC Sims and I've tried most of em... only one's I can think of that I don't have a good opinion on are the Cockpit Master sims (their demos don't let you use a Joystick so I don't know how they stack up), Reflex (for reasons mentioned above), and the Ripmax sim cause i didn't get my Joystick to work right till after my demo period had expired.

Hi BFedRec,
Unfortunately, the Reflex demo that can be downloaded has limitations, for obvious reasons. There's no way of controlling the demo with a (analog, digital, or USB) joystick. I tried them all
.
But, you can still use the mouse to control two of the channels.
This is what I do: First initiate a flight. Then press F8 to bring up the "Channel Display" control window. Then move any two sliders to control the plane/heli.
NOTE THAT ONLY THE FIRST TWO SLIDERS YOU MOVE WILL BE USABLE
Yes, I bought Reflex. It's like $155 or something like that. And after been flying RealFlight G2 for 3 days now I can say that Reflex is somewhat more realistic in terms of the physics of the flying model and ground physics too. Mmm, I guess I need to put some heavy winds/gusts in G2 to make it more real because with no wind the planes are too easy to fly. But, wooo, G2 looks soooo nice....
So for me, the perfect sim will have RFG2's looks with Reflex's physics.
Have fun

I just upgraded from RCFS V.5 to 2001 for just $50. (How nice not to make the Tower monopoly any richer.) The tech support is great. I talked to Dave Brown himself about the compatibity of the new software with Windows XP and then sent him a fax 5 minutes before he left his office on a Friday afternoon and got a prompt email with the needed help. If you have the Simstar controller you will need to spend $16 for the Radio Shack USB Gameport adapter, part no. 26-164.
I just want to practice RC maneuvers as I would at the field. I can't see paying for kiddy toys to do "dogfights" or to have landing fields on Mars or whatever or the voices of modelers in the background. This is a great training aid. The entire package is a lot less than G2, just $160 from www.dbproducts.com/

RC Stunt Pilot,
Is FMS REALLY better than RCFS 2001? I don't think that FMS is that great. I'm using the latest version. The airplanes behave very strangely below stall speed (ailerons die), they will not snap, and the rudder seems like an afterthought. Am I doing something wrong?
Also, I just got a brand spankin new computer, 2.0 ghz P4 (this is what FMS is running on) with an integrated Prosavage 32mb graphics card (4X AGP, I think) and at resolutions above 600x800 the frame rate rarely exceeds 10 per second. What am I doing wrong? I'm new to computer gaming, if you couldn't tell

Hi Cody,
I think FMS and RCFS2001 are in the same category. I never said either of them was great
If you already fly RC planes, you will notice that in both sims the planes fly strangely at low speeds. But what upsets me the most is the "rattle" stall seen in RCFS2001. I think it's a bug in the software or the physics modeling.
None of these sims do tip stalls. RCFS 2001 does snap rolls though.
Mmm, 10 FPS in that nice system? I bet the problem (if any) is the S3 (legacy?) video card. Maybe it is not a "3D Accelerator" card. Check the manuals. Is that card integrated in a VIA mobo or laptop?

Umm...VIA mobo? Your speaking Greek to me. I do know that it's not a laptop, though.
It says 3D nowhere in the description.
I have since upgraded to DirectX 9, and the FPS is about 15 with peaks in 25 at 1024 X 768 resolution. I have also started a new thread regarding this problem. Please, if you could, respond there, so that this thread can stay on topic. The new thread is entitled "Questions about simulators for a newbie" in this forum.

I think that the ProSavage is not that good of a card. It is more than likely your problem. Check inside the sim to see if you have 3d acceleration turned on. I have no idea where this option may be, I don't own the sim, but in many cases games or sims have to option to do software rendering as well as 3d rendering. I would imagine that yours may be set on Software rendering. If you can't find this option, or you find that you are already on hardware rendering setting, then I would recommend that you purchase a video card upgrade. You can go to http://www.pricewatch.com, they list all kinds of mail order companies that you can order from. I would recommend a Geforce2 for a low end card, An ATI Radeon 9700 Pro for a high end card. Pricing anywhere from $60-70 to $400. Hope this helps!
