Turboprop Raven for AFP(D)

STLPilot: If you really want to help me or whoever. Get with Ikarus and please make it easy to download airplanes (your recomended ones) without a lot of fuss. I tried to log in...never seemed to work for me...and the only plane I got easy was a corsair with the wings up all the time. It was easy one click on a post that someone placed there. Why cannot most of the planes that you promote be a one click deal? I do believe it takes a lot of time to come up with designing downloads...but why is it they do not finish the last step...making it easy for us senior RC buffs to enjoy the simulator we PAID for and was advertized with LOTS of free downloads. The point I am making I feel going on $200 is plenty to pay and want to get full use for the $$ spent. No I do not want to debate you....your to much of a pro at that stuff. Regards Capt,n

The only differnce from downloading aircraft from aeroflypro.com or rcsim.de and the corsair you have is registering and logiing in. You managed to register and login to RCUniverse and it is no differnt to connect to any of those other sites. As for Ikarus there is not much they can do about how people store and access free aircraft on 3rd party servers. As for aircraft there is not much to be done to make the procces simpiler, it just a matter of downlading them and extracting them into the aircraft folder. There is most likly a text help file in each plane outlining how to do the previous step.
Complaining that you paid a price and can’t justify the cost because of a lack of easy downloads for aircraft is a great way to thank those who spent weeks making those aircraft. I am sure the various developers enjoy seeing complaints and criticism about how the planes are to hard to download and installed and for the price of the sim (funds that will never be seen by those creating the aircraft) they should be easier to install.

The problem is this. It has nothing to do with Ikarus. Ikarus has laid the foundation for the designers to be able to create these planes easily, at least from the designers standpoint. NOW it's up to each induvidual designer to create the file by (A) creating it as a 1 click installation, better known as an .EXE. Or (B) a slightly more complex method of manual installation, which is the most common.
It's got nothing to do with Ikarus. Just like the free downloads for MS Flight Sim has nothing to do with Microsoft. The issue is that it cost money for these designers to wrap their downloads up. These EXE applications cost money to purchase. So what they do is make them manual. Another reason why they make them manual is because of International directory structures. This is a little bit more complicated to explain, but let's just say not all computers are the same. That's why sometime you see downloads in different languages.
One question I have for you is ... I know you are a advocate of MS Flight Simulator. But have you ever downloaded one of the free planes from one of hundreds of sites around the web? Because if you have you would know that they are MUCH more complex to install then the planes for AFP.
Now I spent a few hours working on my little install video on the AFP website and should only take you a couple attempts before you understand how to install the download. But once you get one or 2 or 3 in there, it's easy. The process is actually very simple, no matter how old or young you are. It's just a couple steps.
Now when it comes to anything else ... just ask. We are all here to help. The wings on the Corsair ... no problem. Just read the FAQ on how to do it.

STLPilot: I was working a lot of overtime when I got the Microsoft sim. All I had time for was to use the planes that were on program already. I liked the combat flight sim where you follow and shoot down planes the was out ahead. I liked the Mustang..it would catch up with the rest and then it was fun shooting them down. That is all I ever did with it. No time for downloads. Did not even do one download. I used a blackhawk joystick, real inexpensive but nice. It was nothing like flying models at a RC field. I don,t know what a advocate for Microsoft sim is...I just bought it because its all I had $$ and time for. Thanks for kinda explaining more about downloads like (a) and (B) Hope to find more A,s Geoff... Talk about complaints....there is so many in all the forums..I dont know why you bring it up. But if it was not for complaints, no one would know what to improve! Right? You need that type of input to get improvements. You know....cutting edge tecknology Thanking is good. I wish I could thank them..so if your out there THANK YOU. But in real life you don,t do things so people can thank you. You do it because you like to do it and share it. I have done that myself. I have taught over 20+ RC friends to fly and tune there planes, engines and anything else they needed help with. I did not need thanks, the big smile on there face when they first flew .... was enough thanks. Thanks Capt.n

Capn', Geoff is one of the top designers of these planes, that's why he came in here to state his case. He works endlessly on some of the planes that you are trying to install.
I don't think anyone is trying to complain, just trying to educate.

Capn, have you been able to download any planes from any of the sites?
I'm wondering if you have a program like winzip which is able to help extract the files you want to go into the proper folder. Or if you are just looking for the easy way out and want a one click operation which isn't gonna happen for reasons STPilot explained.

I was hoping to find a way with very few clicks. Not 40 clicks I counted about that many on the quick vidio strip....problem is ...its kinda hard to remember all the exact places to click when you go to try it. My computer may have a feature that is throwing me off coarse. I do not know. I will try to post a photo of it. Its the blue help menu that gets me no place helpfull. Or I may not be using that part right???

first off...were you able to download any planes from any of the sites into AFPD?....answering that question will give me a better idea of where you stand with the whole download procedure and how i can give you a better explanation of the installation.
Once i know what you are able to do i can tell you how to make shortcuts so you will have very few clicks and then you will realize how simple it really is.

Well I wanted a Raven for my AFP. So last night I set down with about 7 fingers of kentucky's best in a tall glass with ice, and started trying to figure out how to do this. I hoped I would find some small difference. I opened a couple TDM files for AFP planes, had a finger and a half. I did not have any idea what I was looking at. So I opened a couple AFPD downloads. had another finger and a half and look them over. I made things smaller so I could have two screens on the same page to better compare things. Had 2 fingers........right THERE........I think I got it. I made a slight change in the TDM for the Raven, loaded up the raven in the AFP sim clicked "fly" and awaaaay I went. What a great flying and sounding airplane. Had the last 2 fingers and went and got 3 more

The ONLY change I made to Turboraven.tmd file is changed the Version from 1.8.0 to 1.6.0
(you can open the tmd file in nodepad)
ps. I emailed the edited plane to [email protected]..
uh.. aeroflypro.com email server bounce back the email with a msg saying: 552 we don't accept email with executable content (#5.3.4)
